Qualifications

Job description

The Applications Development Senior Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

We are seeking an experienced Java and Spring Boot Developer (Assistant Vice President) to join our Enterprise Technology team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance microservices and database-driven applications while leveraging modern AI development tools (such as GitHub Copilot and Devin) to optimize the software engineering lifecycle and accelerate delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Engineering: Design, build, and deploy scalable, secure, and resilient microservices using Java (11/17/21) and Spring Boot.
• APIs & Messaging: Develop RESTful APIs and integrate event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
• Database Management: Write, tune, and optimize complex SQL queries, data schemas, and transactional workflows across Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• AI-Assisted Development: Leverage modern AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Devin) to accelerate code generation, refactoring, unit testing, and documentation.
• Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with architects and product teams in an Agile environment and mentor junior engineers.
• Risk & Quality: Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies, secure coding standards, and rigorous code reviews.

Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years of hands-on enterprise backend development experience in Java.
• Core Stack: Expert in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Data / Hibernate, and Microservices Architecture.
• Databases: Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database design/tuning (Oracle or PostgreSQL).
• Messaging: Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or enterprise messaging systems.
• AI & Emerging Tech: Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Devin, or similar coding assistants.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Knowledge & Experience

• Core Engineering: 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and Hibernate, with proven expertise across high-level/low-level design, application development, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and production deployment.
• Database & Data Management: Strong working knowledge of Oracle and SQL, including database modeling, complex queries, and performance optimization.
• Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with Big Data ecosystems and distributed data processing concepts (a plus).
• Architecture & Cloud Systems: Hands-on exposure to application architecture, with proven experience designing and implementing Microservices, Cloud Design Patterns, and deploying on Kubernetes or enterprise cloud infrastructure.
• Operating Systems & Infrastructure: Solid understanding of Linux / Unix operating environments, basic shell scripting, and server fundamentals.
• Modern Solutioning & Tech Advancements: Well-versed in architecting modern solutions, staying abreast of latest technology advancements, and leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Devin) to enhance engineering velocity.
• Methodology & Delivery: Deep familiarity with standard SDLC, Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate engineering teams while maintaining an active hands-on technical contribution.
