Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks an experienced Electrical/Electronics/Communications Engineer to design traffic signalized intersections and ITS solutions, including VMS, CCTV, and power/communication networks. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ITS into broader transport projects and conduct feasibility studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Communications Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional membership with recognised institutions (IET or equivalent).
• 3–10 years' experience in Electrical/Electronics, Traffic Signals, and/or ITS for highways/infrastructure projects.
• Experience on international projects, particularly UK/US/Canada/Middle East.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Navisworks, LinSig, Amtech/Trimble Pro.
• Familiar with modern communication tools and MS Office.
• Proven ability to deliver within time frames.
• Ability to work independently and manage small/medium projects.

• Demonstrate understanding of British, American, Canadian, and other international standards.

Education

• Design and develop Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions, including Variable Message Signs (VMS), CCTV systems, MIDAS, HAWIS, HADECS, vehicle detection systems, Emergency Roadside Telephones (ERT), and Power & Communication networks.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ITS designs into broader transport and infrastructure projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations to inform ITS design and implementation.
• Prepare detailed design documentation, specifications, and drawings for Traffic Signal and ITS projects.
• Provide technical support and guidance to clients and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in Traffic/ITS technologies and standards to ensure cutting‑edge design solutions.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure Traffic Signal and ITS designs comply with relevant safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of British, American, Canadian, and other international design standards and specifications.

Qualifications

• Professional membership with recognized institutions (e.g., Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent).
• Minimum 3–10 years' experience in Electrical/Electronics, Traffic Signals, and/or Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for Highways/Infrastructure projects.
• Experience working on international projects, particularly in the UK, US, Canada, or the Middle East.
• Proficient in design software, particularly AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Navisworks, LinSig, and Amtech/Trimble Pro for electrical calculations.
• Familiarity with modern communication tools and online collaboration platforms.
• Good command of the Microsoft Office package.
• Proven ability to deliver work within set time frames.
• Experience and ability to work independently and manage small/medium‑sized projects.

Desirable

• Previous work experience in Traffic Signals and/or Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
• Experience in specification and programming of traffic signal controllers, including UTC/SCOOT and MOVA modes.
• Experience working in an offshoring or global delivery environment.
• Exposure to digital delivery methods.
• Ability to mentor junior team members and collaborate effectively with wider teams.
• Proactive approach to staying updated with emerging technologies such as AI, Digital Twin, Edge Computing, Quantum Technology, and AI‑powered traffic signal systems.
