Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a System Integration Lead Engineer (Rail Systems) to provide strategic and technical leadership on global railway programs from Bengaluru. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, shape system architecture, and lead major bids within governance frameworks.

The role focuses on delivering high‑quality consultancy across communications, control, signalling and operations, with experience in international markets highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline.
• 13+ years in rail systems across high-speed, conventional and metro railways.
• Experience with ETCS/ERTMS, CBTC, TMS, GSM-R and signalling/operational control.

Responsibilities

• Act as trusted technical authority and SME for clients and teams.
• Lead development of complex rail control system solutions and delivery.
• Define and lead system architecture, integration strategies, and concepts.
• Identify and resolve technical challenges and constraints proactively.
• Oversee major multidisciplinary rail projects and system interfaces.
• Coordinate ICDs, integration plans, testing and commissioning activities.

Overview

The System Integration Lead Engineer (Rail Systems) is to provide strategic and technical leadership across complex railway programs across globe. This is a senior-level role focused on delivering high-quality consultancy and engineering services across communications systems, control systems, signalling, systems integration, and operational control.

The role involves driving innovation, ensuring technical excellence, supporting business growth, and leading multidisciplinary teams. Experience delivering projects in the Middle East or other international markets is highly desirable.

As a senior leader, you will play a key role in shaping solutions, leading major bids within governance frameworks, managing client relationships, and developing high-performing engineering teams.

Your Role

• Act as a trusted technical authority and SME, providing strategic guidance to clients and internal teams.
• Lead development of complex rail control system solutions, ensuring best‑in‑class technical delivery.
• Define and Lead system architecture, integration strategies, and operational concepts.
• Provide valuable experience and insight into other areas such as, but not exclusively contracting and technical deployment strategies, constructability and testing and commissioning.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges and constraints.
• Project Delivery and Operations and Asset Management
• Lead and oversee delivery of major and multidisciplinary rail projects in terms of system integration.
• Manage critical system interfaces across signalling, telecoms, and infrastructure.
• Oversee development of interface control documents (ICDs) and integration plans.
• Coordinate and lead integration workshops, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure compliance with assurance, approvals, and certification requirements.
• Lead and oversee delivery of operations and asset management assignments.

About You

• Degree‑qualified in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience (13+ years) in rail systems across high‑speed, conventional and metro railways, including one or more of:
• ETCS / ERTMS.
• CBTC systems.
• Train Management Systems (TMS).
• GSM‑R and telecommunications systems.
• Railway signalling and operational control systems.
• Strong expertise in system architecture, integration, and railway system performance.
• Demonstrated leadership of complex, multidisciplinary rail projects.
• Strong track record in senior stakeholder and client management.

• Knowledge of rail control systems including IP‑based networks, data centres, and cloud infrastructure.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, data analytics, and AI applications in rail systems.
• Experience across assurance, approvals, and certification processes.
• Proven ability to lead technical bids and consultancy assignments.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple high‑value assignments simultaneously.

• Experience of client and contractor organisations
