Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive Purchase & Inventory Officer with 2 to 3 years of experience in sheet metal manufacturing. In this role, you will analyze MRP outputs to plan, procure, and schedule raw materials (CRCA, HR, GI, Stainless Steel sheets/coils), hardware, and subcontracted processing. You will manage end-to-end inventory, optimize safety stock levels, build strong vendor networks, and align material delivery schedules with shop floor production plans to prevent line stoppages.
Key Responsibilities
1. MRP & Material Planning
- Analyze Material Requirements Planning (MRP) outputs from the ERP system based on sales orders and production schedules.
- Develop, release, and monitor vendor material delivery schedules (call-off orders) aligned with shop floor requirements.
- Track long lead-time items and forecast potential material shortages early to take proactive corrective action.
- Dynamically adjust procurement schedules and purchase quantities in response to master production schedule (MPS) revisions.
2. Procurement & Subcontracting
- Source and procure sheet metal coils/sheets, hardware, fasteners, bought-out items, tools, and consumables.
- Coordinate and negotiate rates for outsourced sheet metal operations (laser cutting, CNC bending, stamping, powder coating, and plating).
- Evaluate vendor quotations, negotiate price, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost optimization.
- Process Purchase Orders (POs) and regularly track vendor manufacturing progress to ensure on-time dispatch.
3. Inventory Control & Store Management
- Maintain optimal stock levels (Min/Max, Safety Stock, Reorder Levels) for raw materials, WIP, and bought-out items.
- Perform regular physical inventory audits, track daily stock movements (GRN, material issuance, scrap), and reconcile physical counts with ERP records.
- Coordinate with stores and quality control teams for incoming material inspection, GRN creation, and processing returns for rejected items.
- Monitor sheet metal off-cuts, secondary sheets, and scrap generation to maximize material utilization and minimize waste.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Production Engineering, or a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
- Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in procurement, MRP planning, and inventory control within sheet metal fabrication, automotive, or industrial manufacturing.
- Domain Knowledge: Thorough understanding of sheet metal grades (CRCA, HRCA, GI, SS, Aluminum), thickness gauges, unit weight calculations, metal processing, and stock valuation methods (FIFO).
- Technical Skills: Hands-on experience executing MRP runs, managing inventory modules, and issuing POs in ERP software (SAP MM, Tally, or MS Dynamics). Advanced skills in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) and ability to read basic engineering drawings.
