Job summary

Organo Eco Habitats in South India seeks a designer with curiosity to take projects from concept sketches to on-site execution, focusing on Indian Contemporary sensibility.

You will manage design development, documentation, vendor coordination, and client presentations, using SketchUp, LayOut, and AI tools to sharpen output while working across multiple residential interiors projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
• 2–4 years of professional interior design experience with demonstrable site execution involvement.
• Proficiency in SketchUp and LayOut for 3D modelling and working drawings.
• Experience using AI tools in a design workflow (image generation, ideation, or research acceleration).

Responsibilities

• Translate briefs and site conditions into concept sketches, mood boards, and layouts reflecting Indian Contemporary sensibility.
• Produce working drawings and detail drawings for documentation.
• Be the design representative on site during execution and coordinate with contractors.

Job description

Organo Eco Habitats is an ecological real-estate and placemaking company building eco-neighbourhoods across South India. Every project is anchored in Organo’s 4Q framework — Quality of Space, Quality of Life, Quality of Experience, and Quality of Community.

Metaphor Interiors is Organo’s sister firm - an interior design and build studio, delivering thoughtful, ecology-rooted interiors for Organo community homes. The studio operates across the full project lifecycle: from concept and research, through material selection and design development, to site execution and post-handover. We are a small, high-conviction team with an Indian Contemporary design sensibility — warm, grounded, purposeful.

Role Summary

We are looking for a designer with a great eye and an even greater sense of curiosity. This role is for someone who finds design problems genuinely interesting — who goes deep on research, brings considered aesthetic instincts to every space, and can follow a project from a sketchpad sketch all the way through to the final weld on site.

You will work across multiple projects simultaneously, contribute to design development and documentation, manage vendor and contractor coordination on site, and use digital tools — including AI — to sharpen your output and accelerate your process. This is not a purely desk role; we expect you to be as comfortable on a construction floor as you are in a client presentation.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

• Translate briefs and site conditions into spatial concepts — mood boards, material palettes, and layouts that reflect Indian Contemporary sensibility.
• Produce working drawings, furniture layouts, and detail drawings in SketchUp (with LayOut or equivalent for documentation).
• Develop and iterate design solutions through all stages — from early concept sketches to construction-ready drawings.
• Maintain design quality and coherence across projects; exercise genuine aesthetic judgment, not just technical compliance.

Design Research

• Lead design research for assigned projects: materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, hardware, textiles, and craft.
• Map and maintain a curated vendor and product library for Metaphor — tracking quality, lead times, and pricing.
• Track design trends, emerging materials, and relevant precedents; bring insights actively into studio conversations.
• Use AI tools (e.g., NanoBanana, ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate mood boarding, precedent sourcing, and design ideation.

Site Execution

• Be the design representative on site during execution phases — reviewing work in progress, catching deviations, and coordinating with contractors.
• Interpret design drawings for site teams; solve detailing problems that arise during construction in real time.
• Coordinate with vendors for timely delivery, installation, and quality sign-off of furniture, fixtures, and finishes.
• Document site progress and flag issues to the Senior Designer and Studio Head with clarity and speed.

Client & Studio Coordination

• Prepare design presentations (concept, design development, and final) for client reviews.
• Attend client meetings alongside the Senior Designer; take clear notes and translate feedback into revised design actions.
• Support studio administration: project trackers, material submittals, BOQs, and vendor correspondence.

Essential

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
• 2–4 years of professional experience in interior design, with demonstrable site execution involvement.
• Proficiency in SketchUp — both 3D modelling and presentation-quality rendering; LayOut or equivalent for working drawings.
• Strong design research ability: ability to identify, evaluate, and recommend materials, finishes, and products with confidence.
• A genuinely well-developed eye for design — composition, proportion, material harmony, and spatial atmosphere.
• Experience using AI tools in a design workflow (image generation, ideation, research acceleration, or documentation drafting).
• Comfort on construction sites — able to read drawings, communicate clearly with contractors, and make quick, sound decisions.

Preferred / Advantageous

• Experience working on residential interiors, especially premium or bespoke residential projects.
• Knowledge of sustainable or natural materials, vernacular Indian craft, or biophilic design principles.
• Basic understanding of BOQ preparation and vendor price comparison
