Job summary

The Hartford in India is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design scalable, cloud-native software on AWS, mentor engineers, and drive architecture across platforms.

You will lead API design (REST/SOAP), automate with infrastructure-as-code, and contribute to DevOps practices while exploring GenAI opportunities to enhance automation and decision-making in enterprise applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in team leadership.
• Strong OO design, Java or .NET, Angular/React, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).
• Experience designing/consuming REST/SOAP APIs.
• DevOps tools: CI/CD, GitHub, Jenkins, SonarQube.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant software systems with AWS cloud-native patterns.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting learning and technical excellence.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across software and infrastructure for high availability.
• Automate disaster recovery, HA, and fault tolerance with IaC and cloud tooling.
• Lead standardization of reusable architecture and deployment patterns for AWS apps.
• Evaluate technology trade-offs to maximize customer value and delivery efficiency.
• Drive continuous improvement and empower teams to adopt innovative solutions.

Join our team as we help shape the future.**Key Responsibilities:*** Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant software systems and modern architecture patterns, with a strong emphasis on AWS cloud-native solutions.* Mentor and guide junior software engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence.* Troubleshoot complex issues across software and infrastructure layers, ensuring high availability and performance.* Automate disaster recovery, high availability, and fault tolerance strategies using infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native tooling.* Present innovative ideas to leadership and contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions to elevate team capabilities.* Lead the standardization and implementation of reusable architecture and deployment patterns for AWS-hosted applications.* Engineer applications with best practices for fault tolerance, data replication, and multi-region support.* Evaluate technology trade-offs and make informed decisions to maximize customer value and delivery efficiency.* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and empower teams to implement innovative solutions.* Take ownership of solving customer problems through effective use of modern technologies and engineering practices.* Identify and lead the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI capabilities into enterprise applications to enhance automation, personalization, and decision-making.**Required Skills & Experience:*** Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.* 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years of experience in leading a team* Strong technical background with expertise in software development, architecture, and design.* Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design, Java or .NET frameworks, front-end technologies Angular/React, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS/GCP).* Must have strong experience as Designer/Developer of REST/SOAP API services, both as consumer & provider.* DevOps Knowledge: Experience with continuous integration and DevOps tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Rally, SonarQube).* 2+ years of Hands-on working experience with Scaled Agile methodologies and practices.* Proven track record of delivering high-quality software products on time and within budget.* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.* Knowledge of the employee benefits domain and claimant experience is a plus.**Preferred Qualifications:*** Experience with cloud technologies and microservices architecture.* Familiarity with modern front-end and back-end development frameworks and tools.* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.* Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.* Lead innovative efforts, leveraging modern technologies to solve customer problems. Knowledge of implementing solutions through Gen AI (Artificial Intelligence) is a plus.
