Job summary

Quest Global is seeking a seasoned HMI/SCADA engineer with strong expertise in HMI design and SCADA development. You will work on design, development, and testing of interfaces between SCADA and data concentrator systems for power management and process control projects.

Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation engineering.
• Knowledge in HMI design.
• SCADA development experience using commercial SCADA packages (Codra Panorama, Copa Data-Zenon).
• Experience with industrial network protocols: OPCUA/DA, IEC 61850, DNP3, IEC60870-5-104, Modbus, TCP/IP, Profibus.
• System design – HMI server/client configuration, redundant server configuration.
• Bay Controllers/Merging Units/IEC61850 IEDs knowledge.
• Control Panel design concepts related to substations/power plants.
• Ability to validate AC Substation single line diagrams and protection diagrams.
• HVDC transmission system knowledge.
• Validate communication interfaces and HMI mimics per SCADA configurations.
• Electrical power system protection concepts.
• Historian/Alarm management knowledge (Historical, SMS, Email, Voice).
• Expertise with testing tools like IED Scout/Station Scout/DTM and protocol simulators.
• Reporting: Shift/Batch/Day with backend SQL and MS Access.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement HMI screens for power management systems and SCADA-based controls.
• Capture customer requirements and produce functional, design and test specifications.
• Design, develop and test interfaces between SCADA and data concentrator systems.
• Develop generic libraries in SCADA development environments for external apps.
• Assist with design, development and testing of external applications on SCADA libraries.
• Support ongoing projects within set timelines per OTR process.
• Engage with project teams to provide technically suitable solutions.
• Identify technical risks and implement mitigation plans.
• Propose improvements in processes, tools, systems and technologies with leadership alignment.
• Collaborate within established teams of Engineers/Developers on multiple projects.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens for but not limited to power management systems, Process controls based on IEC 61850 standards for Next Generation Control Systems
• Understanding Customer Requirements and produce Functional and design and test specification documents.
• Design, develop and test the interfaces required between the SCADA and data concentrator systems.
• Develop generic libraries using SCADA based development environment to be used by external applications.
• Assist with the design, development and testing of external applications built on top of the SCADA libraries.
• Support ongoing project with strict timelines as per companys OTR process.
• Actively engage with project teams to provide solutions for the project that technically fit the purpose.
• Identify technical risks and put in place the mitigation plan for the same.
• Identify and propose improvements in processes, tools, system solutions and technologies, rolling out improvements when agreed with leadership team.
• Work collaboratively within well-established teams of Engineers / Developers on a mixture of existing and new projects

Work Experience

• Masters /bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation engineering
• Knowledge in HMI design
• SCADA development experience using commercial SCADA packages (ideally Codra Panorama, Copa Data-Zenon).
• Demonstrated experience working with industrial network communication protocols such as OPCUA/DA, IEC 61850, DNP3, IEC60870-5-104, Modbus, TCP/IP, Profibus,
• System design – HMI server client configuration, Redundant server configuration.
• Basic understanding of Bay Controllers/Merging Units/ IEC61850 IED's
• Basic understanding of Control Panel design (preferably as used in substation/power plant environments)
• Can validate AC Substation Single line diagrams & Protection Single line diagrams.
• Knowledge on HVDC transmission system and different controls involved in the system.
• Experienced in validating communication interfaces and its HMI mimics, based on the engineered SCADA configurations.
