Brief Overview of School
ISH was founded over 40 years ago under the trusteeship of The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Our facilities are excellent, with a purpose-built school, nestled on the 3,500 acres of the ICRISAT campus. Given the wonderful climate of Hyderabad, much learning takes place beyond classroom walls, allowing for a unique and positive life-worthy learning experience. At ISH, we place great emphasis on our learners, ‘leading their own learning’ through learning that is inquiry based, collaborative, relevant, current and meaningful. Our faculty act as facilitators and guides. We have created a learning culture where we encourage everyone to be courageous, and try new ways of learning. ‘Failure’ is seen as a learning opportunity. We operate on principles rather than rules. We give our learners the tools to be reflective about their learning and to constantly be setting new goals to reach their desired targets. Learning at ISH is engaging and fluid and most of all it is fun.
History of School
The International School of Hyderabad (ISH) was founded in 1981 under the trusteeship of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), both non-profit organizations. This gives ISH the similar status of a school administered by a foreign/consular mission. ISH is formally managed by the Director General of ICRISAT with the help of ISH School Board guiding the Head of School in leading and managing. The Head of School is responsible for the day-to-day operations. The first IGCSE Cambridge Exams was administered in 2003 and the first IB Diploma was given in 2007, when the first class of IB students graduated from ISH. ISH was the first school in India to receive international accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) and continues to be accredited by CIS and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Statement/Policy
An inclusive school community for over 40 years, we acknowledge the need to continue to learn and develop our practices to ensure we grow as a diverse, inclusive, equitable and just school community where everyone is valued and belongs.Diversity is the presence of a spectrum of identities that includes, but is not limited to: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual identity, age, ability, and religion.Equity, as opposed to equality, ensures that each person has access to the resources and opportunities needed to achieve their fullest potential.Inclusion ensures that the environment welcomes differences and each individual feels a sense of belonging.Justice recognizes that we must work to eliminate disparities so that all members of our community thrive. We know that this work is ongoing and may sometimes prove difficult. Raising awareness to promote these concepts is required and we expect the engagement of all members of the ISH community in order to provide an environment that is safe, equitable, inclusive and just for all.The ISH Community Expectations in support of Diversity, Equity, Justice and Belonging:· Respect all· Speak our stories and listen to those of others· Learn from the perspectives and experiences of others· Seek to understand our biases and overcome them· Foster an atmosphere of safety and belonging

We landed in India a day before Halloween in 2023. ISH kindly let our 8 yr old, Aranya join the Halloween festivities a couple of days before she officially started. She was over the moon and hooked for life! And so were we. She was assigned buddies who made sure she was settling in socially, while the class teacher (the fantastic Miss Veena) ensured she was all caught up academically. Over the past few years, we have seen our shy quiet little girl, take the stage by storm, start her own environment club and even lead the book challenge in her elementary journey at ISH. I also appreciate the Duke challenges - they have helped to keep her grounded. And above all, Miss Catherine has been collaborative and instrumental in driving positive changes in the school policies. ~ Tanushree Sekhri (Parent of Grade 5 student)ISH has been one of the very best decisions we have made for our girls Zara and Yana. Zara graduated in 2024 after 7 years in ISH and is now studying at St. Andrews in Scotland. Her years at ISH allowed her to settle into this very prestigious school so easily. Of her many accomplishments at St. Andrews, Zara also won the Nisbet Award granted to the best management student among the first years at the University. This too is a testament to the academic foundation she received at ISH. Yana will graduate this year after 8 years at ISH. She has chosen to pursue a degree in Bio Chem at UCL in the UK. Her love for the subjects came from her teachers Ms. Vandana and Mr. Naveen who were instrumental in nurturing her love and interest in the subject. Both the girls have been extremely happy during their years at ISH. They have thrived in an environment that is academically challenging, personally safe and nurturing and culturally exciting. It’s been their home for so long now and all of us will miss it but are so grateful for having been part of this exceptional community. ~ Sabina Xavier (Parent of Grade 12 Student)
