Job summary

Welspun World seeks a Head of Hot Rolling & Bright Bars to lead end-to-end operations of the Hot Rolling Mill and Bright Bar facilities in India. You will drive production, safety, quality, and sustainability, leveraging expertise in stainless and alloy steel rolling and building a high-performance team.

You will push productivity, yield, and customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with standards, mentor the team, and champion Lean, TPM, and Industry 4.0 initiatives to achieve

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in steel manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Role & responsibilities

Position Summary

The Head Hot Rolling & Bright Bars will be responsible for leading end-to-end operations of the Hot Rolling Mill and Bright Bar manufacturing facilities to achieve production, quality, cost, delivery, safety, and sustainability objectives. The role demands strong technical expertise in stainless steel and alloy steel rolling processes, operational leadership, process optimization, and team development.

The incumbent will drive productivity improvement, yield enhancement, customer satisfaction, and manufacturing excellence while ensuring adherence to quality standards and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

• Lead and manage Hot Rolling Mill and Bright Bar operations to achieve annual production targets.
• Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, equipment, and resources.
• Drive operational efficiency through process improvements and productivity initiatives.
• Monitor key operational KPIs including throughput, mill utilization, yield, recovery, rejections, and downtime.
• Ensure timely execution of production plans in alignment with customer commitments.

Process & Technical Excellence

• Provide leadership in rolling mill processes for stainless steel, alloy steel, and specialty steel grades.
• Optimize rolling schedules, pass designs, billet utilization, and product changeovers.
• Drive reduction of process losses, cobbles, roll consumption, scale loss, and quality defects.
• Implement best manufacturing practices to enhance product quality and operational reliability.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of process and equipment-related challenges.

Bright Bar Manufacturing

• Oversee peeling, drawing, straightening, polishing, grinding, and finishing operations.
• Ensure dimensional accuracy, surface quality, mechanical properties, and customer specifications are consistently achieved.
• Drive continuous improvement in bright bar productivity and yield.

Quality & Customer Focus

• Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance and Sales teams to meet customer requirements.
• Drive reduction in customer complaints and internal rejections.
• Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards and customer-specific requirements.
• Support development and qualification of new products and grades.

Maintenance & Reliability

• Work closely with Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and availability.
• Lead predictive, preventive, and condition-based maintenance initiatives.
• Drive reduction in breakdowns and unplanned downtime.

Cost Optimization

• Develop and implement cost-reduction initiatives across Hot Rolling and Bright Bar operations.
• Improve energy efficiency, consumable utilization, and process yields.
• Monitor production costs and drive operational excellence programs.

Safety, Health & Environment

• Foster a strong safety culture across all manufacturing operations.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and safety regulations.
• Lead risk assessment, safety audits, and corrective action implementation.
• Drive zero-harm initiatives and safe manufacturing practices.

People Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team.
• Build succession plans and enhance organizational capability.

Desired Candidate Profile

Technical Competencies

• Extensive experience in Hot Rolling Mill operations for stainless steel and alloy steel products.
• Strong understanding of Bright Bar manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of rolling technology, metallurgy, heat treatment, quality systems, and process optimization.
• Exposure to SAP/ERP systems and manufacturing analytics.
• Experience handling large-scale steel manufacturing operations.

Experience Requirement

• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in Steel, Stainless Steel, Alloy Steel, or Specialty Steel manufacturing.
• At least 5-7 years in a senior leadership role managing Hot Rolling Mill and/or Bright Bar operations.
• Experience in integrated steel plants or specialty steel manufacturing organizations will be preferred.
