About this role
We are seeking a Global Transmission Network Planning Engineer to design, plan, and optimise Vodafone’s global transmission network. The role focuses on delivering high‑level and low‑level designs, supporting capacity planning, and enabling deployment of scalable and efficient network infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with global teams and vendors to ensure reliable, cost‑effective solutions that meet evolving business and customer requirements.
What you will do
- Review and approve transmission network feasibility requests, providing optimised solutions, cost estimates, and indicative timelines.
- Plan and design global transmission networks, including preparation of business cases and presentations.
- Develop HLD, LLD, and ISD documentation for network builds, optimisation, and site closure initiatives.
- Deliver transmission network projects while managing associated budgets effectively.
- Monitor and publish capacity utilisation reports, recommending augmentation and optimisation actions.
- Manage lifecycle activities for transmission network assets.
- Update network elements and circuit builds in inventory systems (Cramer modelling).
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including architecture, design, operations, and field teams.
- Propose innovative approaches to drive operational and capital expenditure efficiencies.
- Apply a proactive, analytical approach to problem solving.
Who you are
- Experienced in transmission network equipment from vendors such as Ciena, Huawei, or Infinera.
- Skilled in transmission network planning and design across SDH/SONET and DWDM/OTN technologies.
- Knowledgeable in HLD, LLD, and ISD design for transmission or transport networks.
- Familiar with network management platforms such as MCP, NCE, and DNA.
- Proficient in inventory and planning tools such as Mori, Cramer, One Planner/Planner+, and Net Star.
- Educated to degree level in Electronics, Communications, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of optical transmission technologies including Fixed and Flex Grid (CDA & CDC).
- Exposure to global networks such as transmission, IP backbone, and internet networks.
- Able to work collaboratively across diverse teams and stakeholders.
