Job summary

Alaan, a fintech company powering spend management in the Middle East, seeks a Full Stack Engineering Intern to join our Bengaluru team. You’ll primarily develop backend services with Node.js/TypeScript and gain exposure to frontend work with React.js and Next.js.

This hands-on role lets you build real features, learn engineering best practices, and collaborate with Product Managers in a fast-moving startup environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed Bachelor's in CS/engineering or related field.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and programming fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js via internships/projects/coursework.
• Familiarity with Express.js or NestJS frameworks.
• Understanding of REST APIs and backend development.
• Familiarity with SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Exposure to React.js or Next.js for frontend work.
• Experience with Git and version control.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Backend development: build and improve backend services and logic using Node.js/Express/NestJS.
• API development: create and integrate RESTful APIs across the platform.
• Database work: work with relational databases, SQL queries, schemas, and data models.
• Frontend involvement: contribute to frontend features with React.js/Next.js when needed.
• Debugging: investigate issues and improve reliability.
• Code quality: write clean, maintainable code and participate in reviews.
• Product collaboration: work with engineers and PMs to take features to production.
• Learning & ownership: take ownership of small features and grow to tackle more complex problems.

About the Role

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team at Alaan, with a strong focus on backend development.

You’ll work alongside our engineers to build and improve production features across our platform, primarily using Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, while also getting exposure to frontend development using React.js and Next.js.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll learn how real-world products are designed, built, shipped, and maintained in a fast-moving startup environment.

What you'll do

• Backend Development: Build and improve backend services and application logic using Node.js, Express.js, and NestJS.
• API Development: Develop and integrate RESTful APIs connecting different parts of our platform.
• Database Management: Work with relational databases, SQL queries, schemas, and data models.
• Frontend Development: Contribute to frontend features using React.js and Next.js when required.
• Debugging & Problem Solving: Investigate bugs, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to improving application reliability.
• Code Quality: Write clean and maintainable code while learning engineering best practices through code reviews.
• Product Development: Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, and other team members to take features from requirements to production.
• Learning & Ownership: Take ownership of smaller features and gradually work on more complex engineering problems as you grow.

What we are looking for

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Must-Have understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript and programming fundamentals.
• Hands-on exposure to Node.js through internships, projects, coursework, or personal development.
• Familiarity with Node.js frameworks such as Express.js or NestJS.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and backend application development.
• Familiarity with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Some exposure to React.js and/or Next.js for frontend development.
• Familiarity with Git and version control.
• Strong problem-solving fundamentals and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, asking questions, receiving feedback, and taking ownership.
• Previous internships, meaningful personal projects, open-source contributions, or experience building and deploying applications would be a strong plus.
