Job summary

Job description

Instead of merely optimizing existing systems, you are motivated to build something brand new. In this role, you will work in an environment without rigid boundaries, where you and your team will actively shape the framework for success. Your objective is to design and develop an innovative, scalable greenfield platform that transforms our solutions for currency adaptation in banknote processing machines worldwide.

Combining strategic technical leadership with direct hands-on software development, you will translate architectural vision into concrete, high-quality production code using Java Spring Boot, Angular, Docker, and Microsoft Azure. Additionally, you will provide technical direction to our development team in India, mentor engineers, conduct rigorous code reviews, and drive engineering best practices across the full development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Hands-on Development

• Drive Full-Stack Development: Actively write clean, scalable, and testable production code across backend (Java Spring Boot) and frontend (Angular) layers.
• Architecture Collaboration: Partner closely with the Lead Architect in Munich to define, refine, and evolve system architecture, prioritizing scalability, performance, maintainability, and security.
• Task Decomposition: Translate high-level architectural designs into clear, actionable technical tasks and user stories for the development team in India.
• Team Guidance & Mentorship: Provide day-to-day technical direction to the India engineering team through code reviews, pair programming, technical coaching, and knowledge sharing.

2. System Design, Data & Cloud Operations

• Database Management: Architect and optimize data persistence solutions using relational databases (PostgreSQL) alongside NoSQL/Document databases (e.g., MongoDB/Azure Cosmos DB) to manage complex currency metadata.
• Containerization & Cloud Deployment: Guide the containerization of applications using Docker and drive CI/CD deployment pipelines within Microsoft Azure environments.
• PoCs & Innovation: Lead Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs) to evaluate emerging technologies, including potential image processing and machine learning (ML) capabilities for banknote classification.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex technical bottlenecks across development, staging, and production environments.

3. Security & Engineering Standards

• Secure Development (SSDL): Embed Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDL) practices into daily workflows, ensuring code compliance with OWASP guidelines, vulnerability scanning, and robust authentication/authorization.
• Quality Assurance: Lead unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies to guarantee high test coverage and system reliability.
• Agile Excellence: Actively contribute to Agile/Scrum ceremonies, engineering process improvements, and maintain clear technical and architectural documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years leading engineering teams or acting as a Senior/Lead Developer.
• Core Tech Stack: Proven expertise in Java (Spring Boot) and modern Angular frameworks.
• Databases: Strong proficiency in relational databases (PostgreSQL) and experience with NoSQL architectures (e.g., MongoDB, Document DBs).
• Cloud & DevOps: Strong experience with Docker containerization and Microsoft Azure cloud services/deployments.
• Security Focus: Solid understanding of enterprise security concepts, SSDL, and secure API design.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills to collaborate effectively across distributed international teams.
