Job summary

Qtloads Tech & Transit is seeking an experienced backend engineer to power our transportation platform with real-time GPS tracking and video telematics. You will design, build, and maintain scalable services across Java Spring Boot, Node.js, and Python ecosystems, focusing on reliability, low latency, and horizontal scalability.

You will work with Redis, PostgreSQL (PostGIS), MongoDB, and messaging systems like MQTT and RabbitMQ, ensuring best data modeling and efficient event-driven

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency & understanding in Java (Spring Boot), Node.js, Python (FastAPI).
• Practical experience with TCP/socket programming, especially for device/data streaming use cases.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java Spring Boot, Node.js, and FastAPI (Python).

• Build and optimize TCP-based data ingestion for GPS and telemetry streams.

Role Requirement

We are looking for an experienced backend engineer with a diverse technical background someone who isn't tied to a single stack but can move fluidly across technologies to solve real engineering problems. You will work on systems that power our transportation platform, including real-time GPS tracking and video telematics, where reliability, scale, and low latency genuinely matter.

Someone technology-agnostic in mindset comfortable working across Java, Node.js, and Python ecosystems, confident with both relational and non-relational data stores, and more interested in solving the right problem than defending a favorite stack.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Java Spring Boot, Node.js, and FastAPI (Python)

• Architect and implement microservices, ensuring clean service boundaries, resilience, and maintainability
• Build and maintain the FastAPI service using async SQLAlchemy 2.0, Pydantic v2 models, Alembic migrations, and strict typing (mypy --strict)
• Build and optimize TCP-based communication for real-time data ingestion (e.g., GPS device pings, telemetry streams)
• Design and manage event-driven and message-based communication using MQTT and RabbitMQ
• Design and manage data layers across Redis, SQL, PostgreSQL (with PostGIS extension), and MongoDB, selecting the right store for the right workload
• Work on distributed systems challenges data consistency, fault tolerance, message queuing, and horizontal scaling
• Profile and optimize system performance to handle high-throughput, low-latency data from vehicles and devices in the field
• Debug complex, production-grade issues across services, often under real-time operational constraints
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, DevOps, data) to design end-to-end solutions

Required Skills & Experience

• 5 - 7 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency & understandings in Java (Spring Boot), Node.js, Python (FastAPI).
• Practical experience with TCP/socket programming, especially for device/data streaming use cases

Databases:

• Redis caching, pub/sub, and session/state management
• SQL / PostgreSQL — schema design, query optimization, indexing

• PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension — geospatial data modeling and queries (points, routes, geofencing)
• MongoDB — document modeling for semi-structured/telemetry data

FastAPI Service Expertise:

• Async SQLAlchemy 2.0 for non-blocking database access
• Pydantic v2 models for request/response validation and settings management
• Alembic for database migrations and schema versioning
• Strict static typing across the codebase, validated with mypy --strict

Messaging & Real-Time Communication:

• MQTT — lightweight pub/sub messaging for device/IoT telemetry
• RabbitMQ — reliable async messaging and task/event queuing between services

Additional Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience designing scalable, efficient, high-availability systems
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, including in production/live environments
• Exposure to distributed systems concepts (consistency, partitioning, message queues, caching strategies)
• Experience with performance optimization — profiling, load testing, latency reduction

Good to Have

• Experience in the transportation, IoT, fleet management, or telematics domain
• Familiarity with GPS data processing or video streaming pipelines
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Understanding of real-time data pipelines and event-driven architecture
