Role Summary

The TGT-Secondary Teacher (French) plans, delivers, and assesses French language instruction for students in secondary grades, ensuring consistent progress in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The role requires fluency in French, spoken and written, along with a sound understanding of curriculum frameworks applicable to the secondary grade band. The teacher works as part of the Languages department and is accountable for measurable learning outcomes across every class assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver grade-appropriate French lessons for secondary grades in line with the prescribed syllabus and school curriculum calendar.
• Design and administer formative and summative assessments, analyze results, and use findings to adjust instructional approaches for individual learners and the class as a whole.
• Differentiate instruction to address varying proficiency levels within a class, whether French is being taught as a first, second, or third language for the students.
• Prepare lesson plans, worksheets, audio-visual materials, and other teaching-learning resources that meet the learning objectives for each unit.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment scores, classwork, and homework completion, and submit reports within deadlines set by the academic team.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, areas for improvement and strategies for home support.
• Participate in department meetings, curriculum review sessions, and staff development programs, and school events as required.
• Uphold school policies on conduct, safety, and inclusion within the classroom and across the campus at all times.
• Coordinate with co-teachers, subject coordinators, and support staff to ensure continuity of learning for students who require additional attention.
• Keep subject knowledge current by engaging with updated pedagogical practices and revised board guidelines and developments in French language teaching.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Master's degree in French or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
• B.Ed. or TET qualification as applicable under the relevant state or central regulatory requirement for secondary school teaching.
• Minimum two years of experience teaching French at the secondary level in a school setting.
• Fluency in French, spoken and written, at a level sufficient to conduct lessons and assess student output and communicate with stakeholders entirely in the language.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong command of French grammar, phonetics, literature, and composition sufficient to teach across the secondary grade band.
• Ability to explain concepts in clear, grade-appropriate language and to adapt explanations when learners do not understand on the first attempt.
• Classroom management skills that maintain a productive and orderly learning environment without disrupting adjacent classes.
• Competence in using digital tools, learning management systems, and presentation software to support instruction and record-keeping.
• Eective written and verbal communication in English and at least one other language used in the local area, to liaise with colleagues, students, and families.
• Organizational ability to manage lesson planning, assessment cycles, and administrative duties concurrently and on schedule.
• Collaborative approach to working within a department, including willingness to share resources, give and receive feedback, and align with agreed pedagogical norms.
