Job summary

Wisemonk, a London-based FinTech startup, is hiring an early engineering hire to help build an AI-powered SaaS platform for financial services operations. You will own features end-to-end across backend APIs, data pipelines, and AI-enabled capabilities, collaborating closely with the technical founder.

You will work on Django REST APIs, data models, and ETL workflows, and push for production-grade AI integrations such as document extraction and reconciliation logic.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Python (Django and FastAPI) with production REST API builds.
• Experience with relational databases and schema design (PostgreSQL).

We are hiring for a London-based FinTech startup that is building agentic AI solutions for financial services operations. The company is transforming how financial institutions manage data operations by automating the entire lifecycle from data ingestion and transformation to intelligent matching, break detection, and resolution eliminating manual spreadsheet-driven workflows.

As one of the early engineering hires, you'll work closely with the technical founder, contribute to a production-grade AI-powered SaaS platform, and have the opportunity to own features end-to-end while helping shape the product and engineering culture from the ground up.

The Role

You will work across the full stack of a production SaaS platform — backend APIs, frontend UI,

data pipelines, and AI-powered features — to build, extend, and ship product capabilities to

financial institution clients. This is a high-ownership role where you will design and implement

features end-to-end, not just pick up tickets.

What You'll Work On

Backend Development — Build and extend Django REST APIs, design data models,

and implement business logic for reconciliation workflows (ETL pipelines, matching

with TypeScript — data tables, configuration editors, dashboards, and real-time status

views

AI/LLM Integration — Build and improve AI-powered features including intelligent

document extraction, AI-assisted matching rules, conversational configuration agents,

and automated break analysis

Data Processing — Work with high-performance data processing pipelines using

Polars/Pandas for financial data transformation/reconciliation at scale.

Asynchronous Workflows — Design and implement distributed task workflows using

Celery for ETL orchestration, matching execution, and report generation

Testing & Quality — Write comprehensive tests (pytest, Vitest, Playwright) and maintain

high code quality in a fast-moving codebase

Production Support — Debug and resolve production issues alongside the founder;

What We're Looking For

Must Have

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python (Django AND FastAPI), with experience building production REST APIs
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) — schema design, query
• Familiarity with Git workflows, code review, and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to learn new domains quickly — you don't need FinTech experience, but you

need the curiosity to understand reconciliation workflows deeply.

• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working independently in a startup

Great to Have

• Experience with LLM/AI integration in production applications (prompt engineering, API
• orchestration, LangChain/LangGraph)
• Experience with data processing at scale (Polars, Pandas, Apache Arrow)
• Knowledge of asynchronous task queues (Celery, Redis)
• Familiarity with AWS services (ECS, S3, RDS, CloudWatch)
• Experience with Docker and containerised development/deployment
• Exposure to FinTech, capital markets, or financial operations (reconciliation,

settlements, NAV, cash management)

• Experience with document parsing/extraction (PDF, Excel, SWIFT messages)
• Familiarity with component libraries (Radix UI, shadcn/ui, TailwindCSS)
