Job description

Role responsibilities
  • Design and implement order orchestration workflows on the Fluent Commerce platform — modelling states, rulesets, triggers, and user actions that encode each client’s business processes.
  • Develop custom Rules in Java using the Fluent SDK (Rules SDK) to implement business logic such as validation, sourcing, allocation, fulfilment, and notifications.
  • Build and consume the platform’s GraphQLAPI — writing queries and mutations against Fluent’s data entities (Order, Fulfilment, Inventory, Availability, Returns, Location) and designing efficient data access for downstream consumers.
  • Build and extend user interfaces with the OMX UX Framework, including custom form fields and configured web apps that react to workflow state.
  • Integrate Fluent Commerce with surrounding systems — ecommerce platforms (e.commercetools, SAP, Salesforce, Adobe), ERPs, WMS, POS, payment, and carrier/3PL services — using event‑driven patterns, webhooks, connectors, and middleware.
  • Configure inventory and sourcing logic, including Available‑to‑Promise (ATP), fulfilment location networks, and sourcing strategies.
  • Write automated tests for rules and workflows (e.g. JUnit with Fluent’s util‑test / WorkflowExecutor utilities), and validate behaviour with Postman and the GraphQL explorer.
  • Package and deploy solutions as modules/plugins across environments; support CI/CD, monitoring, and release processes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues — diagnosing stuck orders and waves by inspecting audit events and workflow paths, and re‑triggering or remediating safely.
  • Contribute to technical design, code reviews, documentation, and estimation; mentor junior developers and share Fluent best practices across the team.
Must have qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional software development, with strong core Java skills.
  • Hands‑on experience building on Fluent Commerce / Fluent Order Management — workflows, rules, and the Fluent SDK. (For candidates new to Fluent: strong Java plus another OMS/orchestration platform, with willingness to certify quickly.)
  • Solid GraphQL experience (schemas, queries, mutations) and comfort with REST, JSON, and API design.
  • Understanding of event‑driven and asynchronous architectures — webhooks, message/event handling, and integration between distributed services.
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems (commerce front‑ends, ERP, WMS, POS, carriers) through APIs and middleware.
  • Familiarity with cloud (AWS preferred), Git‑based version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong debugging and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to reason about data flowing through a complex orchestration engine.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English, and the ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
Nice to have qualifications
  • Fluent Commerce certification (via the Fluent Commerce Builders Portal / Learning Pathways) or a clear plan to obtain it.
  • Experience with composable / MACH commerce and platforms such as commercetools, or with the broader headless ecosystem.
  • Domain knowledge of retail order management and omnichannel fulfilment — Click & Collect / BOPIS, Ship‑from‑Store, split fulfilment, returns and exchanges.
  • Experience migrating from or integrating with other OMS platforms (e.g. IBM Sterling, Manhattan, Salesforce OMS).
  • Exposure to serverless (AWS Lambda), containers, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
Additional qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Fluent Commerce certification required within X months of joining – a partner requirement for our practice.
