Job description

A fitter welder fabricates, assembles, and installs metal components and structures by accurately positioning, fitting, and welding parts according to technical drawings and blueprints.

Key responsibilities include using hand and power tools, interpreting technical documentation, operating various welding equipment, ensuring precision and quality, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Reading & Interpreting Drawings: Accurately read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and sketches to understand project requirements and specifications.
  • Material Preparation: Select, prepare, and cut raw metal materials using tools like shears, power saws, and cutting torches to achieve the specified dimensions.
  • Assembly & Fitting: Lay out, align, and fit metal components together using clamps, bolts, and tack welding to create structural forms and assemblies.
  • Welding Operations: Perform various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, ARC) to join metal components securely and durably.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished components to ensure accuracy, adherence to specifications, and overall quality, making adjustments as needed.
  • Tool & Equipment Operation: Safely and effectively operate a range of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean work area.
  • Repair & Maintenance: Dismantle, straighten, reassemble, and repair existing metal products and structures as required.
