Job description

Emergent builds autonomous coding agents that replace traditional software development by generating, testing, and deploying production applications directly from plain-language intent. Our systems run in production at global scale and are used to build millions of real applications.

Since our public launch, weve crossed $130M in Annualised Revenue and grown to over 10M users across 190+ countries, who have built 12M+ applications on Emergent. Were backed by Creaegis, Khosla Ventures, SoftBank, Lightspeed, Together, Y Combinator, Google, Claypond and Sentinel Global.

Were solving the hard part of AI-driven software creation: correctness, reliability, security, and scale in real production systems. The team is built by repeat founders, Olympiad medalists, IIT IIM alumni, and leaders from Google, Amazon, and Dropbox.

Were hiring builders who want ownership, speed, and impact at global scale.

The Role:

This is a high-ownership finance role that keeps the company running day to day. You will lead our finance operations function and own how money moves through Emergent: what we collect, what we pay, where the cash sits and whether every statutory deadline is met, across our India and US entities. Youll be the first point of contact for internal teams on payments, vendors, reimbursements and approvals, and you will work closely with the Business and Business Finance. This is not a back-office seat. You will be expected to own AP, AR, treasury and compliance, build the processes, controls and automation that let finance move fast without losing discipline, and to spot risks before they become problems.

What Youll Do:
  • Run accounts payable end to end: vendor onboarding and KYC, PR/PO and approval workflows, invoice validation, three-way matching, payment runs and vendor reconciliations.
  • Manage employee reimbursements, corporate cards and software and subscription spend, and enforce the expense policy and approval matrix.
  • Own invoicing, collections and receipts across entities, including enterprise and partner billing, and report on ageing, disputes and collection performance.
  • Reconcile payment gateway and platform settlements against transactions, fees, refunds and chargebacks, and follow up on exceptions.
  • Track daily cash positions across entities, currencies and bank accounts, produce daily monthly cash and burn reports to the Management.
  • Manage banking relationships, including account opening, signatory mandates, limits, forex and payment arrangements.
  • Manage FX conversions, inter-entity funding and cross-border remittances, including documentation such as Form 15CA/15CB and FIRC, in line with FEMA requirements.
  • Own India statutory compliance execution: GST (including e-invoicing, returns and reconciliations, and export of services and refund claims where applicable), TDS deduction, deposit and quarterly returns, PF/ESI and professional tax.
  • Coordinate US compliance items such as state registrations, sales tax and vendor tax forms with US advisors.
  • Track vendor payment timelines, including MSME payment requirements, and manage vendor contracts, renewals and commitments with business.
  • Coordinate payroll inputs and payment of salaries, contractors and freelancers, and related statutory deductions.
  • Act as the single point of contact for internal business teams on payments, vendor queries, reimbursements and approvals, with clear turnaround times.
  • Build controls that catch duplicate payments, unusual vendor activity and cost leakage before money leaves the bank, and flag exceptions proactively.
  • Provide supporting documents and schedules for audits, tax assessments and fundraising diligence.
  • Drive automation and process improvement in procure-to-pay, collections and reconciliations.
  • Document SOPs and guide and review the work of a team as volumes grow.
What Were Looking For:
  • Chartered Accountant with 5-7 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant part in a startup or high-growth company.
  • Strong hands-on experience running AP, AR and month-end operational closes, including reconciliations and vendor management.
  • Working knowledge of GST, TDS, FEMA and cross-border payment compliance in India.
  • Experience with bank, treasury and forex operations, including multi-currency payments.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems, and with spend or P2P tools, along with strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, approval workflows and fraud and duplicate-payment risks.
  • Strong communication and a service mindset, with the ability to say no to internal teams clearly and politely.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter who takes ownership with minimal direction and is comfortable with ambiguity and frequent change.
Preferred:
  • Experience at a SaaS, consumer subscription, or high-growth technology company; exposure to usage-based or credit-based pricing models
  • Experience supporting fundraising or working across India and US entities.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools such as Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT in day-to-day finance work
Benefits and Perks:
  1. Daily Meals: Lunch and Dinner provided
  2. Family Insurance: 5 Lakhs worth of coverage for you and your family
  3. Unlimited Paid Time Off: Take the time you need to recharge and come back refreshed
  4. Flexible Working Hours: Work arrangements that fit your life and commitments
