Divisional Overview

The Finance Policy Group is a centralised group within the Finance Department, bringing together Regulatory, Liquidity and Accounting policy SMEs into a single centralised team to provide synergies and consistency across Accounting, Regulatory and Liquidity policy topic areas.

Position Specifications

Corporate Title: VP | Functional Title: VP | Experience: 10-15 years | Qualification: CA / CFA / MBA in Finance (FRM is a plus)

Role & Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and dynamic team with a wide array of responsibilities and immediate opportunities to make an impact on senior stakeholders. The role will include current and future policy interpretation, analysis and documentation focusing on Accounting topics under US GAAP, IFRS and Local GAAP impacting Nomura entities. The individual will be responsible for assessing the requirements related to these areas, liaising with the financial and regulatory reporting teams, business areas, Finance and other Corporate functions to manage the internal life cycle of accounting and regulatory change. This is primarily an Accounting policy role, however with the growing regulatory change agenda, there is an opportunity to also be involved in developing the Firm’s thinking and approach to implementing constantly evolving regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analysis of new accounting and regulatory requirements (e.g. leverage ratio, prudential consolidation) and their impact on Nomura entities
  • Communicating UK GAAP and IFRS technical updates to Finance and other staff members
  • Collaborating with the reporting and project teams to ensure accounting and regulatory change projects are delivered in line with the requirements
  • Representing the firm’s views and participating with industry forums
  • Preparing and delivering training materials on areas of accounting change or existing topic areas
  • Developing and maintaining technical policy documents for technical topic areas
  • Liaising with the Accounting Policy Groups regional and global leadership to ensure global consistency in application of accounting policies
  • Acting as a point of contact for Finance colleagues and other departments on accounting‑related queries
  • Developing and documenting technical interpretations and technical papers to support technical decisions
  • Liaising with regional auditors on resolution of technical accounting matters
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Providing input through technical research on regulatory and liquidity policy matters
  • Participation in ad‑hoc Finance initiatives and projects
  • Supporting various governance and control processes

Key objectives critical to success: ability to work independently to a high degree of accuracy with a logical and structured approach; ability to self‑review, identify issues and investigate / escalatem appropriately; flexibility and the ability to keep pace with an ever changing regulatory landscape; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and senior management and build relationships within the department, across functions and across regions.

Mandatory Desired Domain
  • A good understanding of US GAAP and IFRS requirements as applicable to an investment bank, with a desire to develop as a technical SME
  • Experience working within a similar technical accounting policy function, accounting advisory team at an audit firm, or financial reporting team at an investment bank
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Project management and organisational skills, including taking ownership for key policy‑related change projects and managing a variety of stakeholders across the firm
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA)
  • Technical proficiency
  • PC literate (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Good product knowledge across a variety of asset classes
