Job summary

Varaha is seeking a Field Officer to lead on-ground regenerative cotton farming activities in Jamner and Parola, Jalgaon, Maharashtra. You will engage with farmers, coordinate field teams, and ensure project activities run smoothly at village and block levels.

You’ll supervise field operations, provide technical guidance, and report progress to the Operations Manager, with frequent rural travel and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Agriculture, Rural Development, or a related field.
• At least 2+ years of experience in agriculture, farmer outreach, or rural development projects.
• Hands-on experience coordinating field teams and working directly with farmers.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to be based in rural locations with frequent field travel.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate day-to-day field activities including farmer mobilization, training sessions, demonstrations, and data collection.
• Provide technical support to farmers on regenerative cotton practices with agronomy team guidance.
• Ensure timely and quality implementation of field protocols and project interventions.
• Manage a team of field staff and enumerators for the block or region.
• Act as a link between farmers, FPOs, local stakeholders, and the project team.
• Report field progress, challenges, and farmer feedback to the Operations Manager.
• Support logistical arrangements for field visits, training programs, and input distribution.
• Conduct basic data checks and validations before submission to data management.

About The Role

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree/diploma in Agriculture, Rural Development, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience working in agriculture, farmer outreach, or rural development projects.
• Hands‑on experience coordinating field teams and working directly with farmers.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in Marathi and Hindi.
• Willingness to be based in rural locations with frequent field travel.

Preferred

• Experience with cotton, corn, or other sustainable agriculture projects.
• Familiarity with data collection tools, paper-based or digital (e.g., ODK, KoboToolbox).
• Understanding of local farming systems and FPO functioning.
