Role Purpose & Objective
The role is responsible for continuous pre‑emptive monitoring of micro‑banking field operations in branches with the objective of early identification of potential operational process lapses, transactional risk, credit risk and reputational risk. It is accountable for making effective use of data insights and triggers to mitigate potential loss/risks emanating from branch operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Visit center meetings to understand the collection and acquisition process.
- Visit recently disbursed cases to understand the acquisition and disbursement process.
- Visit incremental overdue customers to check the reasons for delinquency and identify gaps in collection and acquisition.
- Visit non‑starter/quick mortality cases to understand issues in the cases.
- Visit NPA cases on a sample basis based on the trigger to check the collection process.
- Conduct sample group loan house visits (around 30‑40 customers) and HV/GRT certification for branch staff. Shadow house visits with high DR HV/PD staff.
- Sample visit of IL customers after disbursement.
- Check end‑use of sample high‑ticket size loans under group and individual loan.
- Verification and investigations based on triggers: high disbursement centers, high NCA centers, high delinquency centers, staff with sudden change in CE, staff in notice period, new staff, high remittance income centers, high non‑MFI loan centers, etc.
- Post‑disbursement hindsight verification of group and individual loan applications/files to ensure policy compliance.
- Check high rejection (GL) branches to assess quality of sourcing.
- Sample calling to customers based on MIS triggers to gather feedback.
- Ensure all information (income, obligations, occupation, requirement, etc.) is properly captured while assessing the loan.
- Verify accuracy of KYC documentation, bureau generation, phone number and geo‑location of the borrower per bank policy.
- Confirm customers are acquired from approved areas or non‑negative areas.
- Monitor disbursement process: verify that disbursement kits are handed over after KYC verification.
- Maintain portfolio health through regular monitoring of branch adherence to policies and processes.
Internal Control Activities
- Conduct periodic review of adherence to credit policies/processes and provide feedback to strengthen policy and quality acquisition.
- Ensure accurate reporting of critical observations.
- Highlight issues/deviations in the field and elevate to supervisor for action per SOP.
- Report staff frauds, process lapses, policy lapses and incorrect information per process.
- Document and share observations in IDM where required.
- Report customer‑related issues such as sub‑lending, loan sharing, commission agents, etc.
- Report any external factors that may impact portfolio quality.
- Prepare action plans for branches based on policy, process and portfolio observations.
- Recommend actions on policy and staff (new customer acquisition, branch credit limits, house visit authority, etc.).
- Maintain high field presence with regular visits to risk branches, recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate insurance issues, bureau disputes and cash misappropriation cases.
- Verify staff certification for PD/HV authority.
- Check mandatory supervisory visits for house visits and center meeting visits.
- Verify receipt book reconciliation/verification, cash collection deposits, PGK kits reconciliation on sample basis.
- Recommend negative area designation based on findings.
- Ensure audit score remains Excellent Grade.
Customer Interaction
- Coordinate with Branch, Credit and Operations teams.
- Co‑ordinate with Audit and Vigilance for identification, investigation and escalation.
- Ensure timely reporting of observations and necessary actions.
- Respond promptly to clarifications.
- Participate in audit closure discussions.
- Treat staff and customers with respect during interactions and investigations.
- Send all reports/MIS on time to concerned departments.
Learning & Performance
- Provide suggestions and initiatives in reporting/document form.
- Conduct regular training of branch team on policy and process lapses.
- Occupy IIBF certification – Fraud management.
- Train branch staff on observations, policy and process updates.
- Visit branches of other clusters for learning.
- Stay updated on external geographic factors affecting the segment.
- Improve observation skills for critical findings.
- Visit competitors to learn best practices.
- Ensure adherence to mandatory training programs.
- Complete bi‑annual certification tests and training.
- Maintain diligent weekly plan and implementation for branch visits.
Minimum Requirements of Knowledge & Skills
Qualifications
- 10th / 12th or Graduation or Post‑Graduation
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience preferably in MFI sector in sales, credit, collection, vigilance or risk functions.
Certifications
- IIBF certification – Fraud management
