Job summary

Tata Consumer Products is seeking a qualified engineer to manage maintenance and projects at a food packaging plant in Kerala. You will drive equipment uptime, support NPD rollouts, and lead Kaizen and 5S initiatives across the Technical Crew.

We expect 3–5 years in FMCG manufacturing, a Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation, and proficiency in CAD and MS Office. Collaborative interaction with production, safety, quality and HR is essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation is required.
• 3–5 years of engineering, maintenance or projects experience in FMCG manufacturing.
• Experience in managing engineering within manufacturing operations and hands-on maintenance across mechanical, electrical, civil and instrumentation areas, especially in food packaging.

Responsibilities

• Achieve targeted OEE and machine uptime; optimize asset efficiency and reduce wastage.
• Provide engineering support for timely NPD project rollouts and packaging changes.
• Set and monitor plant equipment performance against standards (uptime, MTTR, MTBF); drive continuous improvement and audits.
• Oversee spares planning, procurement, vendor evaluation; interact with production, safety, quality and HR.
• Lead improvement initiatives (PI, Kaizen, 5S) to enhance plant efficiency and manage capex and project activities.

What are the Key Deliverables in this role?

• Achieve targeted OEE, machine uptime.
• Asset efficiency, optimized wastages.
• Optimized spares and maintenance cost .

Customer Service

• Achieve targeted OTIF and agreed service levels with customers.
• Reduction in customer/consumer complaints.
• Engineering support for timely roll out of NPD projects

Internal Processes

• Set and monitor the performance of the plant equipment’s against standards and targets in areas such as equipment uptime, MTTR, MTBF etc.
• Reduction in machine wastages
• Engineering related support for all internal and external audits of the unit.
• Ensure high levels of productivity & engagement within Technical Crew teams.
• Ensure plant wastage due to equipment breakdowns are to the minimum as per targets.
• To ensure and drive systems such as Root cause analysis, Corrective action, and preventive action system in place to ensure continuous improvement.
• Technical support for safety management to drive closure of Safety and quality requirements of the factory.
• To overview Spares Planning & Procurement, Vendor selection and performance evaluation.
• Should be able to interact with internal stakeholders like production, Safety, quality, HR and resolve the issues in day-to-day activities.
• Drive / collaborate in Improvement Initiatives – PI, QC,Kaizen , 5S etc. to improve the plant efficiency.
• To monitor capex spends, cashflow and ensure to meet the capex target timelines.
• To Support in Project activities of the plant.

Innovation and Learning

• Lead projects Mainly on NPD, packaging changes & Value based reengineering, technology upgradation etc.
• Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management.
• Building technical competency among the operators and multi skilling them.
• Completes technical studies and prepares cost estimates.
• Cross implementation of improvement projects

What are the Critical success factors for the Role?

• Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electrical & Instrumentation
• 3-5 years of engineering/ Maintenance /Projects experience in a reputed FMCG manufacturing industry.
• Experience in managing Engineering within Manufacturing Operations &Hands on Experience in Maintenance of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & instrumentation areas, especially in Food Packaging Industry,
• Computer proficiency with CAD, MS office.

What are the Desirable success factors for the Role?

• Knowledge of manufacturing and packaging of tea and tea products preferably in Packaging (Tea Bags, Packets etc.)
• Good communication skills (English /Malayalam)
• Proven experience in design to development of machine components /parts – Hands on experience basic machine tool operations ( welding, cutting, drilling, grinding, sheet metal works and machining operations).
• Strong management and leadership skills.
