Overview

Position: Executive Director / Chief General Manager - Thermal

Qualification: Full time B.E. / B.Tech (any discipline) from reputed university. Preference may be given to candidates possessing certificate &/or experience in Project Management and additional qualification in MBA.

Age Limit: Preferably not more than 55 years as on date of advertisement

Experience: Preferably not less than 25 years (for Executive Director) / 20 years (for Chief General Manager) of relevant experience in the Power Generation Industry i.e. 500 MW projects in thermal power plant/unit.

Following would be the added advantage:

  • Experience in corporate planning, driving the growth plans of a thermal power portfolio in similar sized company
  • Experience of leading Project teams for the implementation of large sized Projects Concept- to- Commissioning. (with CAPEX exceeding Rs 250 Cr in a single project)
  • Having responsibility of CEO / Site Head / Unit Head or equivalent and direct reporting to MD of companies of not less than annual turnover of Rs. 1000 Crores. Direct exposure to the Board of Directors would be an added advantage.
  • Experience in preparing high quality reports for the Managing Director and the Board of Directors on operational efficiencies, maintenance aspects, safety aspects, energy management, optimised operations and financial outcomes of operations an projects
  • Experience of preparing Feasibility study reports and Detailed Project Reports for newly conceived Projects.

Role Overview

The Executive Director /Chief General Manager Thermal will be the strategic and technical leader for the companys thermal power generation business and will be responsible for overall management of existing and upcoming Thermal Power Stations (Operational & Under Construction). This role will focus on ensuring Strategic planning, high performance, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth. The incumbent will lead modernization initiatives, optimize plant efficiency, and manage large-scale projects in alignment with corporate objectives and national energy policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning Project Execution and Commissioning of different kinds of Thermal Power Projects
  • Develop and execute operational strategies to achieve business, performance, and sustainability targets.
  • Align thermal operations with corporate growth plans and national energy sector priorities.
  • Drive modernization and technology adoption to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Oversee design, commissioning, operation and maintenance of Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) systems and Balance of Plant (BoP) assets.
  • Ensure optimal Plant Load Factor (PLF), heat rate, efficiency and compliance with environmental norms.
  • Implement best practices in preventive and predictive maintenance to reduce downtime.
  • Lead execution of new capacity addition of large projects, Renovation, Modernization and life-extension of Existing Thermal Units.
  • Oversee Design & Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) activities for major projects.
  • Ensure projects meet budget, schedule, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to power sector regulations, environmental standards, and safety codes.
  • Co-ordinate with regulatory bodies and environmental authorities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and project management.
  • Foster a high-performance culture with a focus on Quality, safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor senior level managers to build leadership capability within the organization.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven leadership in large-scale thermal power generation operations (500 MW+).
  • Strong knowledge of plant operations, regulatory frameworks, and project execution in the power sector.
  • Ability to balance technical decision-making with strategic business priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
