About the role

As an Engineering Manager at Tide you will be working on designing, creating and running the rich product catalogue of your area. We have a long roadmap ahead of us and rarely run out of interesting problems to tackle. Our products include our core account/payments infrastructure adapted to a variety of partner banks, an onboarding flow that is a complex state machine, lending products and business admin tools to help members run accounting, payroll, tax and more, as well as tooling to handle marketing, servicing, public APIs, investment products and acquiring solutions.

Responsibilities

• Defining and owning autonomously part of the target architecture for your domain, ensuring projects and services align with it
• Working on early engineering phases to lay the groundwork for the team in your area
• Collaborating with the product team to select technology partners
• Leading engineers in your team, balancing design, coding and coaching, and serving as a go-to problem solver
• Regularly aligning your vision and roadmap with other Staff Engineers to ensure success of multi-domain initiatives
• Working closely with product owners, mobile and web engineers, data scientists and other business members to translate requirements into well-engineered solutions
• Contributing to the Community of Practice and promoting best practices across the engineering organization

What we are looking for

• Extensive experience (10+ years) building server-side applications and deep knowledge of relevant languages (e.g., Java 8+). Willingness to learn Java if not already familiar
• Solid knowledge of a backend framework (e.g., Spring/Spring Boot)
• Experience running microservices and implementing/consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience engineering scalable and reliable solutions in a cloud-native environment
• Commitment to delivering secure, well-tested and well-documented software
• Willingness to own code and team processes from development to production
• Exposure to complex financial/payment solutions
• Experience integrating with third-party providers and partners
• Experience with relational databases
• Comfort working in an agile environment
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Exposure to continuous integration, delivery and deployment
