Job summary

Litmus7 seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the design, planning, and delivery of large-scale eCommerce initiatives built on Java microservices. This hands-on leadership role balances technical oversight with delivery ownership and architecture governance.

The role includes guiding personalization efforts leveraging customer data, recommendation engines, and AI-enabled capabilities to enhance digital experiences, while driving delivery across distributed teams.

Qualifications

• 12-15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in leadership, architecture, or delivery management roles.
• Strong hands-on background in Java and Spring Boot-based microservices architectures.
• Experience designing and delivering large-scale eCommerce or digital commerce platforms.
• Deep understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and integration patterns.
• Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures and public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multiple engineering teams delivering backend and platform initiatives within a Java microservices ecosystem.
• Own end-to-end delivery of projects, from solution planning and estimation through deployment and production stabilization.
• Drive predictable execution by establishing delivery plans, identifying dependencies, managing risks, and ensuring alignment with business priorities.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, business stakeholders, and external vendors to deliver high-quality solutions.

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the design, planning, and delivery of large-scale eCommerce initiatives built on a Java-based microservices architecture. This role combines engineering leadership, solution architecture, and delivery ownership to ensure successful execution of strategic platform modernization and customer experience initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in architecture and delivering enterprise-grade eCommerce solutions, leading distributed engineering teams, and driving execution across complex technology landscapes. In addition to core platform responsibilities, the Engineering Manager will oversee personalization initiatives that leverage customer data, recommendation engines, and AI-driven capabilities to enhance digital experiences.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires balancing technical oversight, architecture governance, project delivery, stakeholder management, and team development.

Technical Expertise

• 12-15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in engineering leadership, architecture, or delivery management roles.
• Strong hands‑on background in Java and Spring Boot‑based microservices architectures.
• Experience designing and delivering large-scale eCommerce or digital commerce platforms.
• Deep understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, event‑driven architectures, and integration patterns.
• Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of cloud‑native architectures and public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of observability, monitoring, DevOps, CI/CD, and SRE practices.
• Strong knowledge of database technologies, caching strategies, and performance optimization techniques.

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

• Lead and manage multiple engineering teams delivering backend and platform initiatives within a Java microservices ecosystem.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of projects, from solution planning and estimation through deployment and production stabilization.
• Drive predictable execution by establishing delivery plans, identifying dependencies, managing risks, and ensuring alignment with business priorities.

Personalization & AI

• Experience delivering customer personalization solutions or similar solutions in eCommerce environments.
• Understanding of recommendation systems, customer segmentation, experimentation, and customer journey optimization.
• Working knowledge of AI/ML concepts and how they are applied within personalization and customer experience platforms.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with data science and analytics teams on AI‑enabled initiatives.
• Encourage and motivate team to leverage AI tools to improve productivity.

Leadership & Communication

• Proven experience leading offshore and distributed engineering teams.
• Strong project planning, estimation, execution, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision‑making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing multi‑vendor delivery environments preferred.
• Experience with retail and omnichannel commerce platforms.
• Exposure to Customer Data Platforms (CDP), marketing technology ecosystems, and personalization platforms.
• Experience integrating AI services, recommendation engines, or generative AI capabilities into enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with Agile and delivery governance frameworks.
• Experience leading platform modernization and digital transformation programs.
