Job summary

Harness is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Delegate Agent of the Orchestration Platform on customer infrastructure. You will lead a high-performing team, drive core architectural decisions, and ensure production readiness with strong emphasis on reliability and scalability.

You will collaborate with engineers, architects, and customers across time zones to deliver robust features, scale multi-tenant SaaS platforms, and uphold high engineering standards while maintaining an agile delivery

• 5+ years building SaaS applications in backend roles (Java/Go).
• Strong foundation in distributed systems and concurrency models.
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing production incidents.

Software Engineering Manager -Delegate (Agent) (Orchestration Platform on customer infra)

The Delegate Agent is a mission-critical platform component being re-architected to become the single, high-throughput orchestrator for the entire Harness ecosystem. Champions technical excellence and modernize a core distributed system, managing a team of high-performing engineers while balancing high-stakes customer escalations and production incidents.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing this vision—staying closely aligned with our customers, building features that attract new users, and expanding adoption across our existing customer base.
• You’ll collaborate with exceptional engineers and architects, driving key technology decisions that power the world-class features distinguishing our product from the competition.
• As a technical leader, you’ll champion code quality, performance, and best practices—ensuring that every line of code is robust, scalable, and production-ready. Beyond execution, you’ll shape and evolve our technical vision, define forward-looking roadmaps, and inspire your team to innovate and push boundaries.

About You

• Proven Leader: Engineering Manager with 2–4 years of leadership experience, with a proven track record of handling critical production systems and escalations.
• Builder’s Mindset: Deep foundational knowledge of distributed systems, concurrency models, and enterprise-grade architecture. 5+ years building SaaS applications in backend (Java/Go) roles, with a passion for hands-on architecture and coding. Mastery of Kubernetes and containerized orchestration is a major plus.
• Organization Builder: A track record of assembling and scaling world-class engineering orgs.
• Global Collaborator: Comfortable leading teams and working with customers across time zones.
• Customer-Obsessed: You’ve directly influenced customer satisfaction and know what it takes to deliver mission-critical, customer-facing software.
• Performance-Driven: Skilled in building multi-tenant SAAS platforms that deliver seamless user experiences.
• Execution: Ability to champion high engineering standards (testing, CI/CD, code quality) while remaining agile and delivery-focused.
• Battle-Tested: Strong command of managing production incidents and leading effective on-call rotations.
• Strong knowledge of monitoring, alerting, logging and Performance optimization in large-scale systems.
• Hands-on experience in various Cloud Platforms or Kubernetes is highly desirable.
• Technically Grounded: BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
