Engineering Lead – VP
Step into the role of Engineering Lead‑VP. At Barclays, we are more than a bank – we are a force of progress. As an Engineering Lead‑VP, you’ll play a pivotal role in contributing or setting strategy, driving requirements, and making recommendations for change. You will plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies/procedures.
If managing a team, you will define jobs and responsibilities, plan future departmental needs, counsel employees on performance, and contribute to pay decisions/changes. You may also lead a number of specialists to influence the operations of a department in alignment with strategic and tactical priorities while balancing short‑ and long‑term goals and ensuring that budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
Purpose of the Role
To design, develop, and execute testing strategies to validate functionality, performance, and user experience, while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to identify and resolve defects, and continuously improve testing processes and methodologies, to ensure software quality and reliability.
Key Accountabilities
- Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate software functionality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Creation and execution of automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early detection of defects and quality issues.
- Collaboration with cross‑functional teams to analyze requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria.
- Root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
- Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contributing to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

- Strong, technically minded software developer with experience in Web Application Development, modern front‑end technologies (React, JavaScript ES6+, HTML5, CSS3), Node.js, Core Java, J2EE design, Spring framework, and large‑scale banking applications.
- Strong web‑service development experience using REST.
- Strong understanding of OO design and programming techniques, data modelling, and design patterns.
- Logical reasoning, problem‑solving, and performance‑tuning skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and repositories (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub).
- Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Flexibility to react effectively to changing priorities and willingness to step outside role boundaries to achieve results.
- Practical experience supporting and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services.
- Practical experience of observability/monitoring solutions such as AppDynamics, Splunk, ELK.
- Time‑management skills to juggle a complex and demanding workload.
