Job Description
We are seeking an Underground Design Engineer with a minimum of 4+ years of experience specializing in underground structure design, with a strong understanding of geotechnical and structural principles. Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective solutions.
- Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
- Prepare technical reports including Technical Specifications, Design Basis reports, and other required project reports.
- Ensure timely submission of design deliverables.
- Track and monitor progress against delivery timelines.
- Apply excellent design technical skills.
- Correlate and interpret data from supporting interdisciplinary teams.
- Propose alternative solutions for encountered problems.
- Oversee the complete life cycle of a design project within a highway/railway environment.
- Work in a diverse team spread across different geographical locations.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Conduct quality checks and implement engineering procedures.
Technical Requirements
- Design underground structures such as stations, shafts, cut‑and‑cover structures, and TBM tunnels.
- Calculate retaining structures including Berliner walls, micro‑pile walls, joint or secant piles, diaphragm walls, and other retaining walls.
- Develop detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for underground structures, cross‑sections, support systems, and lining segments.
- Conduct geotechnical assessments and incorporate ground support requirements into designs.
- Perform design calculations related to stability, buoyancy, embedment, crack width, and other underground structure verification.
- Have knowledge of TBM tunnel design.
- Review geological and geotechnical data to support design decisions.
- Plan and interpret instrumentation and monitoring data.
- Proficient in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS 2D and Rocscience.
- Proficient in structural software such as STAAD, Robot, and OASIS.
- Apply design codes such as Eurocodes and AASHTO.
Qualifications
- Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
