Job summary

WSP India is seeking a Rail Design Engineer to lead and contribute to design of rail alignments for urban and rail systems. The role involves 3D modelling, template creation, and corridor modelling across LRT, Metro, and freight projects, with a focus on quality deliverables.

The candidate will collaborate with Swedish and international teams, applying Bentley tools (MicroStation/OpenRail Designer) and Open Roads Designer, while engaging with multi-cultural stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years’ experience with Rail Alignment & Track Design for LRT, Metro, Monorail, High Speed and/or Freight railways.
• Excellent command of written and verbal English.
• Strong knowledge of Bentley products including MicroStation/OpenRail Designer, ProjectWise, Open Roads Designer.
• Problem solving skills and originality in approach to solving problems.
• Proficient in MS Office tools and basic computer literacy.
• Swedish project experience and knowledge of Swedish design standards is advantageous.
• Experience working with diverse cultures and international projects.
• Experience from feasibility to detailed design to client handover.
• High motivation and ability to motivate others.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a plus.
• Ability to interact effectively with multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Design alignment design, regression analysis, template creation and corridor modelling for railway corridor and associated facilities.
• Identify business opportunities and convert them into project wins.
• Ensure quality and timely delivery to clients.
• Handle basic project management tasks from start to delivery.
• Lead design teams when required.
• Report project status to management at defined intervals.

Job description

Design of rail alignment (horizontal, vertical, turnout placements & connections and cant), creation of templates and corridor modelling for rail facilities, freight, passenger railways, LRT, MRT and other guided transport systems for all design stages to satisfy business development and project delivery obligations for the Sweden Civil’s team.

Responsibilities

• Design responsibilities include, but not limited to, alignment design, regression analysis, template creation and corridor modelling of railway corridor, service roads, fencing and technical areas, quantity estimation, 3D model extraction, cross section drawings, plan drawings, plan & profile drawings, design reports.
• To identify related business opportunities, initiate discussion and to convert such opportunities to success stories.
• Role requires the designer to ensure quality and timely delivery to the client.
• Project management (basics such as documentation, and submission tracking expected) from start to delivery of project to client.
• Leading a design team, if necessary, in a project.
• Reporting project status to higher management at definite time intervals.

Qualifications

Mandatory

• At least 4 years’ experience of working with Rail Alignment & Track Design for LRT, Metro, Monorail, High Speed and/or Freight railways and other Guided Transport Systems.
• Excellent command of written and verbal English.
• Very good working knowledge of Bentley products such as Microstation/ Open Rail Designer (from alignment design through to preparation of drawings), Projectwise, Open Roads Designer etc.
• Problem solving skills and originality in approach to solving a problem.
• Computer literacy including a command over MS office tools.
• Swedish project experience and knowledge of Swedish design standards is advantageous. Training and guidance will be provided where necessary.
• Experience to work in/with other cultures.
• Experience in projects from feasibility to detailed design to implementation and client handover.
• High degree of self-motivation and ability to motivate others.
• Preferable to have a good working knowledge of software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Ability to work truthfully and honestly, even under minimum supervision.
• Familiarity of interfacing with other disciplines
