Job summary

Simple Energy is seeking a detail-oriented Off-the-Shelf Components Lead to join our Strategic Sourcing team in Bengaluru. You will source, validate, and manage commercially available components for our smart electric two-wheelers, collaborating with design, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams.

You will drive TCO reduction, lead supplier qualification, and supervise DFx processes, while ensuring compliance with RoHS, REACH, and ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering discipline.
• 2-4 years of experience in component engineering, product development, or technical sourcing in a hardware-focused environment.
• Strong understanding of OTS components across mechanical, electrical, and electronic domains.
• Experience with component databases, PLM systems, and compliance tools.

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and select optimal off-the-shelf components for product development based on performance, cost, availability, and lifecycle considerations.
• Map global and domestic supplier landscapes; lead RFI/RFP/RFQ processes.
• Drive total cost of ownership reduction initiatives and lead contract negotiations.
• DFx, DFMEA, PFMEA involvement in part development and tooling.
• Develop and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components.
• Partner with NPD, Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering to balance cost, manufacturability, and performance.
• Implement supplier risk assessments and monitor quality KPIs.
• Maintain component databases, datasheets, and compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, ISO).
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and component innovations.

Job description: Sourcing (Off-the-Shelf (OTS))

You Will

We are looking for a detail-oriented and technically proficient Off-the-Shelf (OTS - Suspension, RVM, Fasteners, Brakes etc.) Components Lead to join our Strategic Sourcing team. This role is critical in sourcing, validating, and managing commercially available components that go into our products. You will work closely with design, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure that chosen components meet technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements.

To Be Successful, You Will Be Expected To

• Component Strategy & Selection: Identify, evaluate, and select optimal off-the-shelf components (electrical, electronic, mechanical) for product development based on performance, cost, availability, and lifecycle considerations.
• Supplier Identification & Qualification: Map global and domestic supplier landscapes; lead RFI/RFP/RFQ processes. Identification, Selection & Qualification of Supplier. Establish qualification protocols, audit plans, and scorecards to ensure supplier capabilities and compliance.
• Cost Management & Negotiation: Drive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reduction initiatives—targeting 8–10% annual savings. Lead high-stakes negotiations on contract terms, volume discounts, and tooling investments. Part Costing. Should Cost. Contractualization. Drive Cost reduction initiatives.
• New Product Development: DFx Process. DFMEA, PFMEA. Part Development - Proto, Mass Production. Proto & Mass Production Tool & Fixture Development. Capacity Calculation & Set up Capacity as per requirement.
• Vendor Management: Supplier Identification, Selection and Approval. Supplier Audit for Qualifying the supplier. Develop and manage relationships with suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality components. Identifying Improvement plan along with supplier to meet SEPL requirement. Maintain SRM. QBR’s with supplier based on parameters.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with NPD, Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering to balance design for cost, manufacturability, and performance. Fast-track prototype tool builds, pilot runs, and scale-up sourcing for high-volume launches.
• Risk & Quality Assurance: Implement supplier risk assessments (financial, geo-political, capacity) and develop mitigation plans. Set and monitor quality KPIs (PPM, defect trends, on-time delivery) with continuous improvement roadmaps.
• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain component databases, datasheets, and compliance documentation (e.g., RoHS, REACH, UL, ISO standards). Monitor component obsolescence, lead time risks, and suggest alternatives to reduce supply chain disruption.
• Tech Scouting & Innovation: Stay updated with emerging technologies, component innovations, and market trends to inform design improvements.

You must have any or a combination of any of the following skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering discipline.
• 2-4 years of experience in component engineering, product development, or technical sourcing in a hardware-focused environment.
• Strong understanding of OTS components across mechanical, electrical, and electronic domains.
• Experience with component databases, PLM systems, and compliance tools (e.g., Silicon Expert, Octo part, etc.).
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and project management skills.
• Prior experience working with EV, automotive, IoT, consumer electronics, or industrial products is a plus.
• Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Altium, SolidWorks, CAD) and product development workflows.
• Knowledge of global supply chain and vendor ecosystems.
• Experience in working with quality, certification, and compliance bodies.
