Job summary

Cyient DLM, a design-led manufacturing partner, seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer (mechanical) to ensure quality and reliability of external components. You will assess suppliers, develop plans, audit facilities, and drive CAPA with cross-functional teams to uphold engineering and production standards.

You will collaborate with Sourcing, SCM and Engineering, apply AS9100 requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement in a tightly regulated EMS environment. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in supplier quality engineering, mechanical domain.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, processes and QC methodologies.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 aerospace/defense standards and requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem solving and 8D expertise; FAI per AS9102 requirements.
  • EMS experience is an added advantage; willing to travel for on-site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and approve potential suppliers against quality standards and criteria.
  • Develop quality plans, inspection criteria and performance metrics with suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits on-site/remote and drive CAPA actions.
  • Establish inspection protocols for incoming mechanical components and address issues.
  • Collaborate with Sourcing, SCM, Engineering and Production to align on quality.
  • Maintain records, generate supplier quality reports, and manage MRB/blocked stock.

Job Description

Job Overview:As a Supplier Quality Engineer specializing in the mechanical domain, this role will play a crucialrole in ensuring the quality and reliability of mechanical components and systems sourced from externalsuppliers. This role’s primary responsibility will be to assess, monitor, and enhance the quality performance ofsuppliers, ensuring that their products meet the required standards and specifications. The SQE will collaboratewith cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders including Sourcing, SCM & Engineering teams to drive continuous improvement in the supply chain, fostering a culture of quality excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Supplier Assessment and Approval: Conduct thorough evaluations of potential suppliers to ensure they meet the company'squality standards and requirements for mechanical components. Collaborate with Sourcing and engineering teams to establish criteria for supplier selectionand approval.
  • 2. Quality Planning: Develop and implement quality plans for mechanical components, outlining inspectioncriteria, testing procedures, and quality control measures. Collaborate with suppliers to establish mutually agreed-upon quality standards andperformance metrics.
  • 3. Supplier Audits and Assessments: Conduct regular on-site and remote audits of supplier facilities to assess their qualitymanagement systems and production processes. Identify areas of improvement and work with suppliers to implement corrective andpreventive actions.
  • 4. Quality Control and Inspection: Establish inspection protocols and standards for incoming mechanical components. Coordinate with suppliers to address and resolve quality issues promptly, including rootcause analysis and corrective actions. Work collaboratively with suppliers to identify opportunities for process improvement andcost reduction. Implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall supplierquality performance.
  • 6. Collaboration and Communication: Foster strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including Sourcing, SCM,engineering, and production, to align on quality expectations. Communicate effectively with suppliers to convey quality standards, specifications, andimprovement plans. Identify potential risks in the supply chain related to mechanical components and developstrategies to mitigate these risks. Collaborate with suppliers to establish contingency plans for unexpected quality issues.
  • 8. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of supplier quality performance, audits, andinspections. Generate regular reports on supplier quality metrics and key performance indicators. Keep a track of day to day supplier quality issues, actions and closure status. Manage supplier rejections / MRB / Blocked stock along with SCM teams for closure.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in supplier quality engineering, particularly in the mechanical domain.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, manufacturing processes, and quality controlmethodologies, mechanical special processes & control mechanisms
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (AS9100), Aerospace & Defense customer standards /requirements and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis & 8D expertise.
  • FAI process as per AS9102 requirementsWorking experience in the Electronics Manufacturing industry (EMS) will be an added advantage.Ability to travel for on-site supplier visits as needed.
Other Skills Preferred
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, CpK studies, SPC & MSA, Internal auditor).
  • Familiarity with ERP (SAP) systems and quality management software.
  • Understanding of both metal & plastic parts manufacturing processes
  • Coordinating with IQC teamKnowledge of different types of mechanical materials and finishes
