Job summary

Trane Technologies in Chennai is seeking an Engineer - Software Test to ensure quality, performance, and security of Residential HVAC Digital software and product applications.

You will develop test cases from user stories, execute manual and automated tests, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a high-quality product with strong security practices. Experience with Python automation and embedded systems is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years in Software Testing, security testing for embedded controls.
• Proficient in Embedded UI Controls, API, and functional automation testing.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Basic cybersecurity principles and testing concepts.
• Familiar with common security tools and scripting basics.
• Solid experience testing embedded systems across platforms.
• Hands-on automation with Python as the primary scripting language.
• Proficiency in Python for maintainable test scripts.
• Cloud-native technologies experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of Software Test Life Cycle and methodologies.
• HVAC knowledge is advantageous.
• 4-year degree not required; practical experience prioritized.

Responsibilities

• Create test cases and scripts from feature descriptions in Jira.
• Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog and retrospectives.
• Work with CAN, MODBUS, Serial protocols.
• Execute manual and automated tests.
• Perform basic security testing and document findings.
• Assist in penetration testing for apps, APIs, and internal systems.
• Analyze results, report defects, and verify fixes.
• Debug automated test scripts and identify root causes.
• Create regression, ad hoc, and bug-verification tests.
• Identify QA bottlenecks and suggest improvements.
• Explore automation improvements in scripts/framework.
• Coordinate with team and stakeholders for updates.
• Participate in threat analyses and security reviews.

What’s in it for you:

As an Engineer - Software Test at Trane, you will play a pivotal role in focusing on ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of Residential HVAC Digital software and product applications along with supporting on security assessments of software applications, infrastructure, and systems. Your primary responsibilities will include developing test cases, scenarios, based on user stories and actively engaging in the agile ceremonies. Execute both manual and automated test cases, troubleshoot and debug automated test scripts, and analyze results to identify and trace the root cause of anomalies or defects. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, product development, and Product Owners to ensure seamless communication and the delivery of a high-quality product and able to work with cross-functional teams to identify and communicate security risks.

What you will do:

• In this role you will:
  • Create test cases, scenarios, scripts from feature descriptions in JIRA board/test management tools.
  • Participate in sprint activities like planning, stand-up meetings, Backlog and retrospective meetings.
  • Working knowledge on communication protocols like CAN, MODBUS, Serial port, rs232/485
  • Execute manual and automated test cases.
  • Perform basic security and vulnerability testing, Document security findings and support remediation tracking
  • Assist in penetration testing for web applications, APIs, and internal systems
  • Analyze results, report and track defects, verify fixes and perform follow-up work to resolve issues.
  • Debug automated test scripts and evaluate results to determine the source of anomalous results.
  • Create & execute regression, ad hoc, bug-verification test cases for final product.
  • Identify quality assurance process bottleneck and suggest actions for improvement.
  • Explore and come up with ideas on Automation improvements in scripts & Framework
  • Co-ordinate with team members and interact with various stake holders for updates
  • Participate in threat analysis and security reviews

What you will bring:

• 2-4 years of experience in Software Testingpreferably security test for embedded controls and applications
• Proficient in Embedded UI Controls, API, Functional automation testing
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environment.
• Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles and testing concepts
• Familiarity with common security tools and scripting basics
• Solid experience in testing embedded systems, ensuring quality across platforms and devices.
• Hands-on experience with automation frameworks, using Python as the primary scripting language.
• Proficiency in Python, including the ability to write maintainable test scripts.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies/projects is an added advantage.
• Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally, with good interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good knowledge on Software Test Life Cycle Process and Test Methodologies.
• HVAC product knowledge will be an added advantage.
