Job summary

GE Vernova in India is seeking an engineer to provide solutions and execute design engineering for SAS projects up to 765kV. You will drive technical discussions, secure customer approvals, and ensure on-time documentation for procurement, manufacturing, testing, site erection and commissioning.

The role requires 3–5 years of SAS experience, knowledge of IEC 61850/Modbus/IEC104 protocols, and the ability to coordinate with internal teams and external customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of SAS engineering/commissioning experience.
• Ability to lead discussions with customers for approvals.
• Knowledge of Substation Automation System engineering and protocols.
• Familiarity with protection, commissioning of SAS systems, and OT cyber security is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Study technical specifications and customer requirements.
• Prepare design concept, strategy, deliverables, BOM, and risk plans.
• Finalize IEDs and materials; raise purchase requisitions.
• Prepare and validate technical designs and drawings; compile IO lists.
• Attend customer meetings to secure approvals and address observations.
• Integrate IEDs with protocols; configure, test, and troubleshoot SAS databases.
• Release drawings and documents to internal test teams for inspection.
• Coordinate with FAT teams and participate in customer FAT as required.
• Provide service support to resolve issues and snags; close technical issues with Product Line.
• Share lessons learned and implement RoEs in design phase.
• Coordinate with sub-suppliers and partners; travel to customer sites if needed.
• Adhere to safety procedures per EHS.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Study of Technical Specification, Contract/customer requirements, technical inputs
• Prepare the DCS Design Concept, Design strategy, List of deliverables, finalise bill of quantity/ budget man-days, identify risk & mitigation plan based on the products & tender documents.
• Finalize IEDs, Bought-on-Job materials and raise purchase requisition to meet the delivery schedule.
• Preparation & Validation of Technical Design, Engineering Documents and Drawings, Sub Station IO List with quality, cost effective solutions.
• Attend Customer technical meetings to secure document approvals, prepare compliance to customer observation / comments as required.
• Integration of IEDs with various protocols, Configure, Test/Validate, trouble shoot the SAS database.
• Release technical design drawings, documents and database to Internal Test team for inspection.
• Co-ordinate with stakeholders like FAT team for internal validation and participate in customer FAT as required.
• Provide support to the service team to resolve technical issues and snag lists.
• Co-ordinate with Product Line for closure of technical issues in design, FAT & commission.
• Share Return of Experience across the team & implement the applicable RoEs in design phase.
• Manage technical interface with sub suppliers & partners.
• Travel for customer visit / site if required.
• Adhere to all safe working procedures in accordance with EHS instructions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical & Electronics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Relevant field experience of 3 to 5 years in SAS Engineering/Commissioning.
• Independent to handle the project Engineering, Customer discussion/approvals, Test, validate & troubleshoot the SAS products/system.
• Broad knowledge on Substation Automation System Engineering, Communication architecture/protocols like IEC 61850, Modbus, IEC104, Network concepts & configuration, Database configuration, Multiple OEM IED integration, DCS/Network Troubleshoot tools.
• Basic Knowledge on Engineering process, Protection, Commissioning of SAS systems, India region utility/industry practices and standards.
• Process bus based Digital Substation, Implementation of OT Cyber Security will be an added advantage.
