Job description

Join a team that is redefining the accessibility of space. Azista space is a transformative force in the global aerospace sector, uniquely positioned at the intersection of indigenous innovation and industrial scalability. Operating India's first private-sector satellite mass-production facility in Ahmedabad, we have bridged the gap between complex engineering and high-volume manufacturing.

As a vertically integrated leader, we provide end-to-end solutions from the precision design of satellite buses and advanced payloads to mission management and communication systems. We don't just build hardware, we are democratizing the final frontier by providing global clientele with the cost-effective, high-performance technology needed to power the next generation of orbital missions. At Azista, you won't just be starting a job, you'll be fuelling the future of space exploration.

Overview / Role Summary

This role is responsible for supporting Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) activities for space optical payloads, including optical alignment, calibration, performance verification, and preparation of technical documentation, in close collaboration with senior engineers.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a driven AIT Engineer – Optical Payloads to support Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) operations at our Ahmedabad facility. Working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will play a crucial role in bringing complex space-borne optical systems from individual components to fully integrated, launch‑ready payloads.

In this role, you will own optical alignment tasks, assist with critical performance measurements (MTF, EFL, distortion), and support environmental testing (Thermal Vacuum, Vibration, Shock). Your success will be measured by test execution accuracy, payload calibration reliability, strict adherence to cleanroom standards, and the quality of integration documentation generated for mission assurance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Optical Alignment & Metrology: Support the alignment of optical subsystems using interferometers, autocollimators, collimators, theodolites, and precision test instruments under senior engineering guidance.
  • Payload Integration & Assembly: Assist in the hands-on assembly, subsystem integration, and end-to-end verification of space optical payloads.
  • Performance Verification & Calibration: Perform key optical measurements - including Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), Effective Focal Length (EFL), and distortion - alongside radiometric and spectral calibrations.
  • Environmental Test Campaign Support: Prepare test setups and monitor critical optical parameters during Thermal Vacuum (TVAC), vibration, and shock testing.
  • Documentation & Mission Assurance: Author detailed integration procedures, test setups, observation logs, and verification records to ensure strict traceability.
  • Cleanroom Protocol Management: Enforce cleanroom standards, contamination control, and ESD safety practices across all integration activities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with mechanical, electronics, thermal, and systems engineering teams to resolve payload integration challenges.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR?
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Applied Optics, Physics, Photonics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 0-3 years of hands‑on experience in optical system integration, alignment, or optical laboratory/academic projects.
  • Core Technical Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of optical principles, imaging systems, and precision alignment techniques.
  • Software Competency: Familiarity with optical simulation or data analysis tools such as Zemax, Code V, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Soft Skills: High adaptability, strong analytical problem‑solving skills, and a passion for space systems engineering.
NICE-TO-HAVE (PREFERRED)
  • Direct experience with optical metrology equipment (interferometers, spectrometers, autocollimators).
  • Practical exposure to cleanroom protocols (ISO 5-8) and contamination control protocols.
  • Academic or internship exposure to optical testing, spectral calibration, or radiometric measurements.
  • Familiarity with international space qualification standards (ISRO, NASA, ECSS, or equivalent).
WHY JOIN US?
  • Pioneer the New Space Economy: Work at India's premier private-sector satellite mass-production facility and directly impact active orbital missions.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Gain hands‑on exposure to advanced optical metrology tools, space‑grade cleanrooms, and environmental testing infrastructure.
  • Accelerated Career Growth: Work side‑by‑side with industry experts in a high‑growth, merit‑driven environment that values initiative and continuous learning.
  • End-to-End Ownership: See your work transition directly from lab setups and integration racks to active deployment in space.
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a multidisciplinary team of passionate engineers committed to democratizing space technology.
