Job summary
WSP India seeks an experienced Airfield Civil Engineer to join the Aviation team in India (Noida, Bengaluru or Mumbai). The role supports the Airfield Principal Engineer and has potential to become a Senior Airfield Civil Engineer as the GCC Airfield Engineering team grows and develops.
You will deliver airfield civil design and maintenance projects from feasibility to construction for clients in the UK and overseas, with emphasis on ICAO/FAA standards, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and cross-disciplinary

- Experience on large, technically complex airport projects from detailed design and construction support stages.
- Experience delivering aviation projects within an engineering team and collaborative problem solving.
- Excellent written and verbal communication when interfacing with team members, industry peers and clients.

- Act as a Civil Airfield Engineer for airfield projects.
- Lead technical design production and mentor junior engineers.
- Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications for airfield projects in the UK and overseas.
- Contribute to design reviews to meet quality standards.
- Read and interpret AutoCAD/Civil 3D drawings and manage revision control.
- Coordinate designs with clients and teammates and manage RFIs and risks.
- Support design process ownership and ensure health and safety in design.

The primary function of this role will be to support the Airfield Principal Engineer, however there will be potential to become a Senior Airfield Civil Engineer as the GCC Airfield Engineering team grows and develops. The successful candidate will be among one of the first members of this team and will form a crucial role in its growth and development. The Airfield Civil Engineer will be responsible in supporting delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design from feasibility/ option studies to detailed design and onto construction for various clients both in the UK and overseas.

- Act as a Civil Airfield Engineer for airfield civil engineering projects.
- Take ownership in the production of technical designs whilst giving technical leadership and mentorship to more junior engineers in the team.
- Undertake the preparation of technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications related to the delivery of airfield engineering projects in both the UK and overseas.
- Contribute towards technical design reviews as required to meet the WSP quality management requirements.
- Read and accurately interpret, review, amend and reproduce engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
- Ability to manage drawing registers and revision control processes.
- Respond to client directions in a professional and customer focused manner and to develop and maintain relationships with clients, peers and others who are influential in providing future business.
- Actively participate in the design and take ownership in providing technical input to the design team throughout the full design process.
- Effectively and confidently communicate and coordinate designs with team members, industry associates and Clients as required.
- Identify and support in the management of design risks, issues and Request for Information (RFIs).
- Support the Principal Airfield Civil Engineer as directed by monitoring and contributing to the development of appropriate project controls, including change management, information management and document control.
- Follow the technical quality requirements, address the project brief and meet client deadlines.
- Champion excellent health and safety in design.
The current team is diverse and well respected across the industry therefore the candidate is required to have sound technical abilities.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in Civil Engineering projects at airports and preferably have a degree in Civil Engineering.
- Civil engineering experience of working on large, technically complex airport projects from the detailed design and construction support stages.
- Experience working within an engineering team in the delivery of technical aviation projects, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleaguesand be able to demonstrate a time when you’ve managed to do this successfully to solve complex problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills when providing design information or interacting with team members, industry associates and Clients, regardless of their technical abilities.
- Competent self-discipline with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritisation of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment to meet the needs of multiple projects and managers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet the technical and design objectives as directed by the Airfield Principal Engineer.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
- Experience of international airfield design standards such as ICAO and FAA.
- Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and relevant other airfield engineering design software packages such as AviPlan, SkySafe and FAARFIELD is preferable but not essential.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant qualification
- Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience is preferable but not essential.
- Knowledge and experience of using Civil 3D and relevant other airfield engineering design software packages such as AviPlan, SkySafe and FAARFIELD is preferable but not essential.
- Employment with WSP India is subject to the successful completion of a background verification (“BGV”) check conducted by a third-party agency appointed by WSP India.
