We are looking for a senior design engineer to lead advanced CAD design and shipbuilding projects, ensuring precision, sustainability, and digital twin integration.
Responsibilities
- Creation of detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings to required standards.
- Assist with the training and development of the design engineering team and trainees.
- Apply engineering principles to the design of machinery and equipment including pressure equipment, mechanical systems, hydraulics, and structural components.
- Prepare assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials.
- Advise and instruct operations staff on testing and assembly of equipment.
- Ensure all design work is completed accurately, readable and on time.
- Liaise with colleagues and clients during the appropriate design phase to ensure coordination and functionality of design.
- Implement 2D and 3D design processes for shipbuilding projects.
- Support the transition to a new CAD system, assisting in the transfer and update of drawings and improving drawing accessibility for the entire design team.
- Develop innovative product designs using advanced CAD software and generative AI tools, optimizing for both functionality and sustainability.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in virtual environments to integrate cutting‑edge materials and manufacturing processes into design solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the design team.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive digital twin models to support management and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Generate layout drawings, review and update drawing specifications as per class requirements.
- Produce production drawings for hull, piping, and outfitting.
- Prepare structural 3D modeling based on basic drawings.
- Deliver accurate technical drawings and specifications, and help identify and resolve any design issues that may arise.
- Manage an external engineering company in India for certain projects, acting as liaison between engineering teams.
Health, Safety & Quality Responsibilities
- Refuse unsafe work and conduct all work in accordance with established safety standards and practices.
- Report all accidents, incidents, near‑misses, and hazards immediately and complete relevant paperwork.
- Participate in Health, Safety & Environment communication and consultation.
- Comply with the company’s Quality and HSE Management System and policies.
Qualifications & Certifications
- B.Tech in Naval Architecture/Shipbuilding or Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Marine Shipbuilding.
- Minimum 6 to 10 years professional experience as a design engineer.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
- Proficient with CAD software: SolidWorks (Expert) and AutoCAD (Intermediate).
- Experience with CADMATIC, PDM/Teamcenter, and pipe/cable routing.
- Autodesk Certified User (ACU) – AutoCAD.
- CADMATIC Certified Experience.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to manage cost‑saving measures, project management, and problem‑solving.
- Good visual and spatial awareness, with strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic systems, and instrumentation.
