Job summary

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer with 6+ years of hands-on experience to develop firmware for a battery-powered TPMS sensor platform, with strong emphasis on BLE, TPMS sensing and data transmission, and low-power operation.

You will design and implement embedded C firmware for TPMS sensors and receivers, optimize for power, bring-up prototype hardware, and collaborate with hardware, systems and validation teams to ensure robust production-grade software.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of embedded firmware development with C on microcontrollers.
• Hands-on BLE experience including advertising and GATT.
• Experience with TPMS or automotive sensor systems.
• Receiver-side firmware and ECU integration experience.
• Strong MCU fundamentals, interrupts, timers, memory constraints.
• Experience with low-power/battery-operated devices and production debugging.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded C firmware for TPMS sensor devices and ECUs.
• Implement TPMS application logic: state machines, scheduling, validation, diagnostics, recovery.
• Design BLE advertising flows, GAP/GATT, payload encoding, transmission timing, Tx-power.
• Develop receiver-side firmware to decode, validate, and process TPMS packets.
• Integrate pressure, temperature, acceleration, and battery-voltage sensing with BLE/radio and firmware services.
• Optimize battery life with sleep modes and low-power cycles.
• Bring up and validate firmware on prototype hardware with JTAG, UART logs, vendor tools, and cross-functional teams.

Role Summary

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer with 6+ years of hands-on experience to develop firmware for a next-generation, battery-powered Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor platform. The role is strongly focused on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), TPMS sensing and data transmission, low-power operation, and production-grade embedded C.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded C firmware for resource-constrained TPMS sensor devices and receiver-side embedded modules or ECUs.


• Implement TPMS application logic, including product state machines, measurement scheduling, sensor validation and filtering, diagnostics, and recovery.


• Design BLE advertising flows for TPMS data, including GAP/GATT behavior, payload construction, OEM/customer-specific encoding, transmission timing, and Tx-power considerations.


• Develop receiver-side firmware to receive, decode, validate, and process TPMS wireless packets, including sensor identification and association, message-integrity checks, signal-quality handling, diagnostics, and fault recovery.


• Integrate pressure, temperature, acceleration, and battery-voltage sensing with BLE/radio, timers, NVM, diagnostics, and firmware-update services.


• Optimize battery life using sleep/deep-sleep modes/LPM, wake-up sources, event-driven execution, and low-power measurement and transmission cycles.


• Bring up, debug, and validate both sensor-side and receiver-side firmware on prototype hardware using JTAG, UART logs, vendor tools, and test setups, while collaborating with hardware, systems, and validation teams.

Required Skills & Focus Areas

• 6+ years of embedded firmware development experience, with strong hands-on C programming for microcontrollers.


• Practical BLE experience, especially advertising, GAP, GATT, payload limits and formats, Tx power, RSSI, and low-power wireless trade-offs.


• Experience with TPMS or automotive sensor-and-receiver systems involving pressure, temperature, acceleration, battery-voltage monitoring, motion detection, wireless data reception and diagnostics.


• Experience developing firmware for receiver- or ECU-side embedded systems, including packet reception and decoding, sensor pairing or identification, data validation, diagnostics, and integration with vehicle or host software.


• Strong MCU fundamentals, including interrupts, timers, watchdogs, memory constraints, fault handling, layered architecture, HAL, and driver abstractions.


• Hands-on experience with UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, ADC, flash, NVM, CAN/LIN, JTAG/debug probes, vendor SDKs, build tools, and Git.


• Experience with low-power battery-operated devices, bootloaders, firmware updates, configuration management, static analysis, and production-oriented debugging.
