Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Chennai, India, is seeking a Test Engineer for verifying engine software systems within the Energy & Transportation Systems – AT&S India group.

The role involves building test frameworks for HIL testing, automating tests, and maintaining HIL hardware for electrification software validation. You will work with engine domain experts, review models and test plans, and deploy automation to mature test plans, enabling efficient testing workflows onsite five days a week.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech in Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Automotive Engineering.
• 5 to 8 years’ experience in Automotive embedded software testing.
• Experience with OPAL HIL system for test automation and execution for automotive subsystems.
• Python scripting and basic C programming experience.
• Experience with automotive communication protocols: CAN, J1939, CIP, MODBUS.

Responsibilities

• Development of test framework for HIL system testing for various Electrification applications, testing and automation.
• Collaborate with engine application domain experts within the established process framework.
• Maintain and update HIL hardware test systems for Electrification software testing.
• Program, configure and update OPAL RT test equipment for closed-loop system testing.
• Design harness and test architecture between HIL tester and electronic modules to enable testing.
• Review software models and integrate with HIL models to simulate components in HIL.
• Review test plans and results; contribute to test automation for efficiency.
• Apply electrification control features and electrical principles to provide inputs to Plant model developers and testing methods.
• Deploy automation to matured test plans and improve test schedules.

Job Responsibilities

• Development of test framework for HIL System Testing for various Electrification applications, Testing and Automation.
• Success in this position involves working effectively with the engine application domain experts, working within the established process framework, and demonstrating technical expertise in verifying the Engine software’s.
• Maintain and Update Hardware In Loop (HIL) hardware test systems for Electrification software testing.

• Design harness and test architecture between HIL tester and electronic modules to enable testing.

Requirements (Key Competencies)

• Automotive Embedded testing experience.
• Experience of Energy software testing (preferred) and good knowledge in Energy Control

Systems.

• Experience with OPAL HIL system for test automation and execution for automotive subsystems

• Experience of Python Scripting / Basic C Programming.
• Experienced in Communication Protocols: CAN, J1939, CIP, MOdBus etc.
