Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Chennai seeks an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support DBR projects across substations and electrical systems.

You will perform load calculations, equipment sizing, short-circuit and protection studies, and prepare GFC/shop drawings using REVIT and AutoCAD, coordinating with civil, mechanical, and ELV disciplines while ensuring adherence to BIS, IEC and CEA standards.

Qualifications

Job description

• Project DBR preparation understanding the nature of contract, scope, interfaces, design risks, balancing between technical matters and BOQ/ Cost provisions.
• Accurately performs and/or checks electrical design calculations starting from load list preparation, substation equipment sizing, short circuit, motor starting studies.
• Power cable sizing, Earthing resistances and sizing, Lightning protection risk studies, Lighting design using DIALux. Should be conversant in using Microsoft Excel.
• Should be thorough and conversant with BIS, IEC, IEEE, NBC, CPWD, CBIP, IE & CEA rules.
• Should have a very good multi-disciplinary understanding to effectively Interface with various other Lead Engineers.
• Should be able to maintain a cordial relationship with client clearing all questions and comments timely and to obtain approvals by promptly resolving client issues.
• Layout Engineering, Estimation and BOQ:
• Should be conversant with Hands on overview / working knowledge on BIM software such as REVIT and 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD, etc..
• Should have knowledge to refer, review, understand, interpret and comment on drawings/ layouts of civil (RCC, Steel framed, Foundations / Piles, Deck slabs, Tunnels, Jetties, Retaining walls etc..), Mechanical (P&ID, Equipment layouts, Piping, HVAC, PHE, Fire protection etc..), ELV (Control system, BMS SCADA, Fire alarm, CCTV, Public addressing, Filed instrumentation etc..)
• Conceptualizing, development, detailing and preparation of GFC drawings / Shop drawings for Electrical substation including Oil/ Dry type transformers, LT switchgears, Diesel generators, UPS, Battery chargers, MV & LV VFD, MV & LV Soft starters, detailed civil interfaces like foundation, oil pit, trenches, openings / cutout, sleeves and general operation, maintenance and material handling arrangements as necessary as per IE rules and other statutes.
• Preparation of basic, detailed, GFC Single line diagrams with all necessary relay protections, metering, indication, operation, controls, safety interlocks, redundancies, protection grading and coordination strictly meeting contract / statutory requirements. Working knowledge on relaying & protection of Switchgears, transformers, cables, motors, VFD, UPS, Soft starters is a must.
• Preparation of basic, detailed and GFC / Shop drawings of Lighting, Cable tray, Earthing, lightning, conduiting/ wiring drawings etc..
• Preparation of power & control cable schedule, tray sizing, earthing schedule etc..
• Preparation of signal interface matrix for Electrical switchgear, electrical motors / VFD/ Soft starters with the Instrumentation control system. Preparation of inputs for buildings/ commercial spaces with BMS SCADA.
• Procurement, installation, commissioning and handover
• Understands the various contracting methods and able to prepare RFQ with complete information on the scope, datasheets, specification, drawings, interfaces, risk factors.
