Job summary

SKF Engineering and Lubrication India Private Limited in Bavla seeks an EHS Lead to drive safety, health and environmental programs in line with SKF guidelines and statutory norms.

The role focuses on zero-incident mindset, hazard control, training, audits, and liaison with regulators, ensuring ISO 45001/14001 compliance and a strong safety culture at the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Must - Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety.
  • 10+ yrs. of experience in EHS in manufacturing organization.
  • Preferred - lead/internal auditor in ISO 45001:2018 & ISO14001:2015.
  • Preferred - NEBOSH, IOSH certification.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and drive EHS programs per SKF guidelines.
  • Maintain core EHS documentation and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct safety training and awareness campaigns.
  • Inspect site for hazards and lead incident investigations.
  • Liaise with factory inspectors, pollution boards and regulators.
  • Ensure PPE usage and contractor safety management.
  • Monitor licenses and EMS/OSHAS compliance.
  • Develop annual training plans and EHS improvement actions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: EHS Lead

Reporting to: DGM Maintenance & EHS / Factory Head

Location: Bavla, Ahmedabad (30-35KM from Ahmedabad on Rajkot Road)

Purpose of the role:

Plan and drive implementation of safety, environment, and health programs as per SKF group guidelines & in compliance with statutory norms to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions and to drive a safety culture in the location.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure implementation of standardized EHS procedures & practices in accordance with company policies and procedures & country EHS directives.
  2. Maintain core EHS documentation in line with group EHS guidelines e.g. HIRA , ASPECT IMPACT and ensure practical implementation of the same
  3. Strive for continuous improvement with a focus to apply hierarchy of controls to aim zero injury
  4. Implement initiatives such as awareness campaigns, safety drills, training programs, recognition for best ideas, etc. to enhance the importance of HSE among SKF employees as per guidance from country EHS.
  5. Create and design Safe Operating Procedures for work and ensure they are strictly adhered to.
  6. Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees health exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
  7. Implement safety standards, identify unsafe activitiesand potential hazards, and provide recommendations for correction to ensure safety regulation compliance
  8. Create a proactive action plan to minimize near-misses & accidents on the safety front and conduct in-depth incident analysis and accident investigation highlighting the root cause and taking corrective measures.
  9. Develop & drive environmental control plan by analyzing existing environment-related practices and control mechanisms and identifying potential hazards to ensure SKF operations comply with statutory norms and applicable ISO standards
  10. Liaison with external stakeholders like factory inspector, pollution board, relevant govt. functionaries etc., to ensure smooth operations and functioning
  11. Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE)& work specific tools are used by every employee onsite
  12. Conduct regular checks (planned as well as surprise) in the location, review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy, and ensure that corrective actions are implemented.
  13. Ensure compliance with OSHAS & EMS and monitor renewal of licenses and permissions for the manufacturing process.
  14. Conduct location wide HSE training needs assessment & identify skill gaps to be addressed to create an annual, monthly, or weekly training plan for all locations.
  15. Ensure adherence to contractor safety management at site

Metrics:

  1. Number of accidents, near misses , first aids and proactive reporting of unsafe conditions and acts
  2. Safety , health & environmental parameters for the location
  3. EHS & sustainability programs progress
  4. Adherence to Statutory compliances & EHS policies
  5. Training Plan achievement & Effectiveness

Competencies:

  1. In-depth knowledge of EHS practices in manufacturing organizations
  2. Strong knowledge of statutory norms & different local & global EHS standards

  5. Conflict management skills

Candidate Profile:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  2. Must - Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety
  3. 10+ yrs. of experience in EHS in manufacturing organization
  4. Preferably certified lead/internal auditor in ISO 45001:2018 & ISO14001:2015
  5. Preferred - NEBOSH , IOSH certification
