Responsibilities

• Perform 2D Echocardiography, M-Mode and Color Doppler examinations as prescribed and acquire high-quality images.
• Explain procedures to patients and ensure comfort, safety and privacy throughout the examination.
• Operate echocardiography machines safely and perform routine equipment checks.
• Maintain accurate patient records and enter data into HIS/EMR system, ensuring confidentiality.
• Coordinate with cardiologists, nurses and technicians to ensure smooth workflow and timely investigations.
• Adhere to infection-control and safety protocols and participate in quality-improvement activities.

Job description

1. Job Purpose

To perform echocardiography procedures safely and accurately, obtain high-quality cardiac images and measurements, support cardiologists in diagnostic evaluation, and ensure excellent patient care throughout the procedure.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Echocardiography Procedures

• Perform 2D Echocardiography, M-Mode and Color Doppler examinations as prescribed.
• Acquire appropriate cardiac views and high-quality images according to standard protocols.
• Perform accurate measurements of cardiac chambers, valves, ventricular function and blood-flow parameters.
• Assist with Doppler, Stress Echo and other advanced echocardiography procedures as required and within competency.
• Ensure complete and technically adequate studies are available for cardiologist review.
• Identify technical limitations or unusual findings and promptly bring them to the cardiologist's attention.

B. Patient Care & Preparation

• Verify patient details and physician orders before the procedure.
• Explain the procedure clearly to patients and address basic queries.
• Position patients correctly to obtain optimal echocardiographic views.
• Maintain patient comfort, dignity, privacy and safety throughout the examination.
• Monitor the patient's condition during the procedure and immediately report any distress or significant abnormality to the cardiologist/clinical team.
• Provide appropriate assistance for elderly, pediatric, emergency and mobility-limited patients.

C. Equipment Handling

• Operate echocardiography machines safely and effectively.
• Perform routine equipment checks before starting procedures.
• Ensure transducers, accessories and consumables are available and functional.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the equipment and examination area.
• Report equipment malfunction, image-quality issues or technical problems promptly.
• Support preventive maintenance, calibration and quality-control activities.

D. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate patient records and examination details.
• Ensure correct patient identification and proper image/data storage.
• Enter required information into the HIS/EMR system.
• Maintain examination logs and daily statistics as required.
• Prepare preliminary technical observations/measurements for cardiologist review, without independently providing a clinical diagnosis.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and diagnostic records.

E. Cardiologist & Team Coordination

• Assist cardiologists during routine and specialized echocardiography procedures.
• Coordinate effectively with cardiologists, nurses, technicians and other departments.
• Ensure smooth patient flow and timely completion of scheduled investigations.
• Support emergency cardiac investigations whenever required.
• Follow instructions provided by the cardiologist and department leadership.

F. Quality, Safety & Infection Control

• Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols and patient-safety standards.
• Adhere strictly to infection-control and biomedical-waste management practices.
• Maintain cleanliness of the ECHO room and equipment.
• Participate in departmental audits and quality-improvement activities.
• Maintain professional conduct and patient confidentiality at all times.
