The Role

As the Director of Data and AI, you will be responsible for guiding and shaping the data strategy across the organization.

You will lead the data team in architecting and implementing data solutions that align with business goals and support growth at scale. In this senior role, you will ensure that the data architecture is effective, scalable, and sustainable while providing clear vision and leadership on data initiatives.

Drawing on your experience leading data teams in complex environments, you will create and implement a comprehensive data strategy that supports data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing data team, providing guidance on data architecture, strategy implementation, and overall data management practices.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the data team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Manage data-related escalations and provide strategic oversight to ensure the successful delivery of data projects on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Develop and own the organization’s data strategy, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and future growth plans.
  • Define clear goals for data management, analytics, and governance, and translate these into actionable roadmaps for the data team.
  • Guide the execution of the data strategy, ensuring that architecture, tooling, and processes support the seamless integration and usage of data across the organization.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of scalable and efficient data architecture that enables effective data storage, processing, and retrieval across all platforms.
  • Ensure that data infrastructure supports robust data pipelines, real-time analytics, and big data solutions, fostering a seamless flow of high-quality data.
  • Oversee the evaluation, selection, and integration of tools and technologies that enhance the data infrastructure and analytics capabilities.

Vision & Innovation in Data Strategy

  • Ensure the data strategy is forward-looking, continually evolving to leverage emerging trends and technologies in the data domain.
  • Advocate for the use of advanced data techniques, such as machine learning, AI, and predictive analytics, to solve complex business problems and unlock new opportunities.
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning within the data team, encouraging the adoption of innovative methodologies and tools.

Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, ensuring compliance with data security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement data quality controls and standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data across the organization.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure that data usage adheres to relevant laws and industry regulations, especially in areas such as GDPR, HIPAA, and other privacy frameworks.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Proven leadership in data strategy with 10+ years of experience in data-focused roles, including 5+ years in senior leadership positions guiding data and analytics teams in complex or high-growth environments.
  • Extensive experience in data architecture and engineering, with a strong understanding of scalable data systems, data pipelines, and cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Deep knowledge of modern data tools and platforms, such as data lakes, data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery), ETL/ELT tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow), and data integration technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning, including practical application of these technologies to solve business problems.
  • Strong grasp of data governance, privacy, and compliance frameworks, including GDPR, HIPAA, and other global data regulations.
  • Track record of driving data literacy and data-driven decision-making across diverse stakeholder groups, including executive leadership.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable business insights.
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling high-performing data teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field; PhD or MBA is a plus.
