Job description

Role & responsibilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented PCBA Planner to own end-to-end planning for printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) across a diverse product portfolio of 50+ board types, ranging from low-complexity, high-volume boards to high-complexity, low-volume boards. This role sits at the intersection of supply chain and production planning: it requires close coordination with Supply Chain / Procurement to secure the availability of electronic components, and detailed, SKU-level PCBA build planning that is tightly synchronized with the system-level and box-build (final assembly) production plan. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and organizational discipline with a practical understanding of electronics manufacturing, and is comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity across many concurrent programs.

Key Responsibilities
1. Component Availability & Supply Chain Coordination
  • Work closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, and Commodity Managers to track and confirm availability of electronic components (ICs, passives, connectors, modules, etc.) required for each PCBA build.
  • Proactively identify component shortages, long lead-time items, allocation risks, and single-source exposure; Escalate early with clear impact statements (which PCBAs, which builds, which dates are at risk).
  • Translate PCBA build plans into time-phased component requirements (MRP/MPS logic) and reconcile against supplier commitments, purchase orders, and inventory on hand.
  • Coordinate expedites, alternate/second-source parts, and substitutions with engineering and supply chain, ensuring BOM and approved-vendor-list (AVL) compliance.
  • Maintain visibility of incoming material (ETA tracking) and proactively resequence PCBA builds when shortages or delays occur, minimizing line stoppages.
2. PCBA Build Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop and maintain detailed, SKU-level production plans and schedules for 50+ PCBA types, spanning high-volume/low-complexity boards and low-volume/high-complexity boards, balancing SMT line capacity, kitting readiness, and labor availability.
  • Sequence and prioritize PCBA runs to maximize SMT/THT line efficiency minimizing changeovers, setup time, and stencil/feeder changes — while protecting on-time delivery.
  • Convert system-level and box-build (final product) plans into the corresponding PCBA demand and build schedule, ensuring the right boards are ready in the right quantities at the right time for downstream assembly.
  • Continuously reconcile the PCBA plan against the box-build plan as demand, engineering changes, or supply constraints shift, keeping both plans synchronized.
  • Plan and track work-in-process (WIP) buffers, safety stock, and kit completeness to avoid starving or overloading assembly lines.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change order (ECO) transitions by planning cut-in points, phase-out of legacy boards, and material disposition.
3. Efficiency, Loss Reduction & Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve planning efficiency, reduce excess/obsolete (E&O) inventory, minimize scrap, and lower carrying costs across the PCBA portfolio.
  • Monitor and report key planning metrics: schedule adherence, line utilization, component fill rate, shortage aging, inventory turns, and E&O exposure.
  • Participate in daily/weekly production and S&OP (sales & operations planning) meetings, representing the PCBA plan and flagging risks to overall production targets.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineering, quality, and test teams to align capacity plans with real line performance and yield.
  • Maintain accurate planning data in the ERP/MRP system (BOMs, routings, lead times, lot sizes) and drive continuous improvement of planning parameters.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 10+ years of experience in production/materials planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations within an electronics or PCBA/EMS manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience planning across a large, mixed portfolio of part numbers/products (high-mix, variable-volume environment).
  • Working knowledge of electronic components, BOM structures, and SMT/PCBA manufacturing processes (SMT, THT, reflow, AOI, ICT/functional test).
  • Hands‑on experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., "SAP", "Oracle", "NetSuite", "Infor", or similar) for demand planning, material requirements, and scheduling.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis); experience with planning/BI tools (e.g., "Power BI", "Tableau") is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with proven attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume data environments.
Preferred / Desired Skills
  • Experience planning in both high-volume/low-mix and low-volume/high-mix (or high-complexity) manufacturing environments simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with S&OP, capacity planning, and finite/constraint-based scheduling concepts.
  • Exposure to supplier management, component obsolescence management, and second-sourcing strategies.
  • Understanding of Lean/Six Sigma or continuous-improvement methodologies applied to planning and inventory efficiency.
  • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience supporting NPI programs and coordinating with engineering during design/BOM transitions.
