Job summary

USV is seeking a Deputy Manager Engineering for its OSD manufacturing facility in Gujarat. You will oversee maintenance of core process equipment and utilities, drive uptime and safety, and lead an engineering team to support production targets.

You will ensure cGMP compliance, manage equipment qualification lifecycles, and coordinate improvements across maintenance, QA, and EHS functions. Strong leadership and pharma experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on leadership with 12–17 years in pharma plant engineering and maintenance.
• Deep knowledge of OSD process equipment, line mechanics, automation, and plant utilities.
• Experience in facilities approved by USFDA, MHRA, EU-GMP or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preventative, breakdown, and predictive maintenance of core OSD process machinery and lines.
• Maintain uptime and OEE through schedules and RCFA-driven improvements.
• Drive spare parts, inventory optimization, and vendor management for critical equipment.
• Ensure cGMP and regulatory compliance; manage qualification life cycles (DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Lead audits and present engineering documentation during inspections.
• Manage key utility systems (HVAC, purified water, dust extraction) and EHS protocols.
• Lead, mentor, and plan shift schedules; coordinate cross-functional training.

Job description

The Deputy Manager Engineering will oversee process equipment maintenance, plant engineering, and utility operations for the Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) manufacturing facility. The role is responsible for maintaining high equipment availability, ensuring strict regulatory compliance, leading continuous improvements, and managing engineering team operations to support production targets.

Role & responsibilities

• Oversee preventative, breakdown, and predictive maintenance of core OSD process machinery, including Granulation equipment (RMG, FBD, FBP), Compression Machines (Korsch, Fette, Cadmach), Coating Machines (Glatt, Gansons), Capsule Filling, and Auto-cartoning/Blister Packing lines.
• Maintain equipment uptime and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) through effective maintenance schedules and root-cause failure analysis (RCFA).
• Drive spare parts management, inventory optimization, and vendor management for critical process equipment and critical components.

Regulatory Compliance, Validation & Quality Assurance

• Ensure strict adherence to cGMP, USFDA, MHRA, EU-GMP, WHO, and other regulatory authority standards across all engineering operations.
• Manage Equipment Qualification and Validation lifecycles (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ) for new and upgraded process machinery.
• Author and review engineering Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules, Deviation logs, CAPAs, Change Controls, and Risk Assessments.
• Lead engineering audits and successfully present engineering documentation during customer and regulatory inspections.

Operations, EHS & Utility Management

• Oversee key utility systems supporting OSD manufacturing (HVAC, Compressed Air, Purified Water systems, Dust Extraction Units).
• Enforce EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) protocols, permit-to-work systems, and safe work procedures across engineering activities.
• Identify and implement engineering projects aimed at energy conservation, yield improvement, capacity debottlenecking, and automation upgrades.

People Leadership & Resource Management

• Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing engineering team of engineers, executive personnel, and maintenance technicians.
• Plan and allocate shift schedules, cross-functional training, and technical skill development programs for plant maintenance staff.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and EHS teams to ensure smooth factory operations and timely batch execution.

Preferred candidate profile

Educational Background

B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electronics & Communication (E& C), or Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized university.

Work Experience12 to 17 years

of core hands-on and managerial experience in pharmaceutical plant engineering and maintenance.

Domain Expertise

In-depth knowledge of OSD (Oral Solid Dosage) manufacturing process equipment, line mechanics, automation, and core plant utilities.

Regulatory Market Exposure

Proven track record in facilities approved by USFDA, MHRA, EU-GMP, or equivalent regulated markets. Direct audit facing experience required.

Leadership Experience

Substantial team management experienceproven ability to lead and guide engineers, supervisors, and technicians effectively.

Technical Competencies

Deep technical understanding of PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation controls, mechanical drive systems, line balancing, and reliability engineering.
