Job summary

Sigma Earth is seeking a Deputy Chief Environmental Officer in India to lead environmental management activities across projects. The role focuses on implementing Environmental Management Plans, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating with authorities and internal teams.

The candidate should have extensive experience in large infrastructure or related sectors, with proven ability to manage audits, reporting and corrective actions while driving waste reduction and resource conservation

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of total professional experience.
• At least 5 years in similar environmental management work.

• Support the preparation, development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans.
• Ensure compliance with MoEFCC, SPCB, CPCB, EIA conditions and consent requirements.
• Monitor Environmental Clearance, Consent to Establish/Operate and other statutory permissions.
• Maintain statutory environmental records, registers and compliance evidence.
• Oversee monitoring of air, water, noise, soil and waste management.

Job description

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• EMP implementation: Support the preparation, development, and implementation of the Environmental Management Plan for projects.
• Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, rules, guidelines, and approval conditions, including MoEF&CC, SPCB, CPCB, EIA conditions, and consent requirements.
• Statutory approvals: Monitor compliance with Environmental Clearance, Consent to Establish, Consent to Operate, and other statutory permissions.
• Environmental records: Maintain all required statutory environmental records, registers, documentation, and compliance evidence.
• Environmental monitoring: Oversee monitoring of air quality, water quality, noise, vibration, soil, waste, and other relevant environmental parameters.
• Impact mitigation: Ensure proper implementation of mitigation measures for identified environmental impacts.
• Pollution control systems: Supervise the operation and performance of pollution control systems such as STP, ETP, dust suppression systems, noise barriers, oil traps, and related infrastructure.
• Corrective action: Review monitoring data and initiate timely corrective measures wherever prescribed limits are exceeded.
• Waste management: Ensure proper handling and management of solid waste, hazardous waste, e-waste, and construction and demolition waste.
• Waste reduction: Promote waste minimization, reuse, recycling, and resource-efficient practices across project activities.
• Resource conservation: Track water, fuel, and energy consumption and support conservation initiatives to reduce environmental impact.
• Stakeholder coordination: Liaise with regulatory authorities, consultants, laboratories, auditors, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
• Inspection support: Support inspections by statutory bodies and ensure timely submission of compliance responses and reports.
• Cross-functional coordination: Work with design, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental controls into project execution.
• Internal audits: Conduct internal environmental audits, site inspections, and compliance checks.
• External audit support: Assist during client, external, and statutory environmental audits.
• Environmental reporting: Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual environmental reports to management and relevant authorities.
• Non-conformity closure: Track environmental non-conformities, observations, and corrective actions to ensure timely closure.

Minimum Qualification

The Deputy Chief Environmental Officer should hold at least one of the following qualifications from a government-recognized institution:

• Environmental Engineering: BE, BTech, or MTech in Environmental Engineering.
• Environmental Science: MSc in Environmental Sciences.

Experience Requirement

• Total experience: Minimum of 12 years of overall professional experience.
• Relevant experience: At least 5 years of experience in similar environmental management work.
• Preferred sector exposure: Experience in large infrastructure, rail, bullet train, or metro projects will be preferred.
