Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced drainage engineer to support flood risk assessments and detailed drainage designs for highways, rail, and urban development, applying InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, or Causeway Flow.

You will lead design work, manage project tasks, mentor early-career professionals, and liaise with UK offices to ensure on-time delivery, QA compliance, and sustainable solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in drainage/hydraulic engineering.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic and hydrological principles.
• Experience with detailed drainage designs using InfoDrainage and Flow.

Responsibilities

• Prepare DMRB design reports and technical specifications for stormwater drainage.
• Design drainage for highways, rail, and urban development with exposure to aviation drainage an advantage.
• Day-to-day project management including concept studies, detailed designs, and construction drawings.
• Liaise with UK offices and assist in fee proposals and financial control as a package project manager.
• Ensure projects are delivered on budget, on schedule, and to QA, CDM, sustainability, and HSE requirements.
• Mentor and manage early-career professionals to maintain technical excellence.

Job Description

Applicants must have a strong academic background in Engineering and experience working within a UK-based consultancy, completing flood risk assessments, surface water drainage strategies, and detailed drainage designs using InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, or Causeway Flow.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Preparation of DMRB design reports and technical specifications for stormwater drainage and related works.
• Responsible for designing all aspects of drainage for highways, rail, and urban development projects. Exposure to aviation drainage is an added advantage.
• Day-to-day project management, including the delivery of concept studies, detailed designs, and construction drawings.
• Liaison with UK offices, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and financial control of projects when acting as a package project manager.
• Ensuring projects are delivered on budget, on schedule, and to technical standards, while meeting QA, CDM, sustainability, and HSE requirements.
• Direct line management responsibilities, including mentoring and managing early-career professionals, ensuring technical excellence in all deliverables.
• Maintaining a positive working environment within the team.

Candidate Specification :

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the relevant field.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic and hydrological principles.
• Detailed drainage designs using MicroDrainage and InfoDrainage. Ability to execute high-quality SuDS designs using InfoDrainage and Flow.
• Ability to analyze technical design problems and propose innovative solutions to improve outcomes and processes.
