Job summary

Mott MacDonald, a global engineering and development consultancy, seeks an experienced drainage specialist to deliver high-quality stormwater drainage and sustainable SuDS solutions. The role involves shaping projects across highways, rail, and urban development with a focus on delivery, technical excellence, and stakeholder coordination.

Applicants should have 5+ years in the field and strong knowledge of hydraulic/hydrological principles, plus experience with InfoDrainage or similar tools.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in water/wastewater or hydraulics.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic and hydrological principles.
• Experience with drainage design software: InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, or Causeway Flow.

Responsibilities

• Design drainage for highways, rail, and urban development projects.
• Lead day-to-day project management and deliver concept studies, detailed designs and construction drawings.
• Liaise with UK offices and assist in fee proposals and financial control of projects.
• Ensure delivery on budget and schedule while meeting QA, CDM, sustainability and HSE requirements.
• Mentor and manage early-career professionals and maintain a positive team environment.

Job Description

Applicants must have a strong academic background in Engineering and experience working within a UK-based consultancy, completing flood risk assessments, surface water drainage strategies, and detailed drainage designs using InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, or Causeway Flow.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Preparation of DMRB design reports and technical specifications for stormwater drainage and related works.
• Responsible for designing all aspects of drainage for highways, rail, and urban development projects. Exposure to aviation drainage is an added advantage.
• Day-to-day project management, including the delivery of concept studies, detailed designs, and construction drawings.
• Liaison with UK offices, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and financial control of projects when acting as a package project manager.
• Ensuring projects are delivered on budget, on schedule, and to technical standards, while meeting QA, CDM, sustainability, and HSE requirements.
• Direct line management responsibilities, including mentoring and managing early-career professionals, ensuring technical excellence in all deliverables.
• Maintaining a positive working environment within the team.

Candidate Specification

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the relevant field.
• Strong understanding of hydraulic and hydrological principles.
• Detailed drainage designs using MicroDrainage and InfoDrainage. Ability to execute high-quality SuDS designs using InfoDrainage and Flow.
• Ability to analyze technical design problems and propose innovative solutions to improve outcomes and processes.
