This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Engineering – Marketplace & Dev Ecosystem based in India.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity for an experienced technology leader to shape the future of a large-scale marketplace and developer ecosystem within a global, remote-first SaaS environment. You will define the engineering vision for public APIs, third-party integrations, developer tools, monetization infrastructure, and the app marketplace. The role combines strategic planning, architectural leadership, and people management to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable platform capabilities. You will lead multiple engineering teams, mentor managers and senior technical contributors, and establish a culture of accountability and technical excellence. Working closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders, you will help expand partner capabilities, improve the developer experience, and unlock new revenue opportunities. Your work will directly influence how external developers and businesses build, integrate, and grow on a platform serving a global customer base.

Accountabilities

• Engineering Leadership and Team Development

  • Mentor and coach Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, and Tech Leads, fostering technical excellence, accountability, and ownership.

  • Lead performance reviews, define clear career development paths, and support the growth of engineering talent across the marketplace organization.

  • Build and develop resilient teams capable of operating high-traffic public APIs and reliable financial transaction systems.

• Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Translate business objectives into scalable engineering roadmaps for the marketplace and developer ecosystem.

  • Improve processes for managing hundreds of integrations and thousands of developer applications throughout their lifecycle.

  • Establish effective agile delivery practices while maintaining rigorous security, governance, and reliability standards.

• Architecture and Technical Oversight

  • Oversee public API architecture, including versioning strategies, backward compatibility, scalability, and high availability.

  • Guide the development of monetization infrastructure, including automated payouts and usage-based billing systems.

  • Maintain high engineering standards across SDKs, sandbox environments, native integrations, and developer-facing tools.

  • Drive architectural decisions that support platform extensibility, operational resilience, and long-term growth.

• Business Strategy and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Managers and other business stakeholders to define the strategy for the app marketplace and partner program.

  • Design extensible integration architectures that support major third-party platforms, including Google, Meta, and Slack, as well as custom solutions.

  • Align technical investments with business priorities, developer needs, platform adoption, and revenue growth.

Requirements:

• Experience: 12+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership or management roles overseeing multiple teams or other managers.

• Technical expertise: Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and Vue.js, or comparable modern front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.

• Developer ecosystem experience: Demonstrated success building or managing public APIs, developer platforms, app marketplaces, or complex third-party integration ecosystems.

• SaaS background: Experience in a high-growth Software-as-a-Service environment is highly desirable.

• Architecture and systems design: Strong judgment in API versioning, backward compatibility, system security, scalability, and high-availability architecture.

• Leadership capabilities: Proven ability to mentor engineering leaders, develop high-performing teams, manage complex delivery portfolios, and foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

• Strategic execution: Ability to translate business needs into technical roadmaps and balance rapid delivery with quality, security, and governance.

• Collaboration: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and business functions.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
