Job summary

Ayr Energy designs and manufactures critical power grid equipment and seeks a Design Engineer HV – Mechanical in Chennai to perform basic mechanical design of HV circuit breakers, define parts and tolerances for manufacture, and ensure manufacturability.

You will carry out mechanical and structural analyses (GD&T, ISO GPS), define test requirements per IEEE/IEC, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams to qualify components and assemblies, with travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years HV product design experience.
• Proficiency in ANSYS, PROMECHANICA, SOLIDWORKS.
• Knowledge of IEEE/IEC type tests and HV qualification.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Define design parameters as per IEEE/IEC Type tests of DTCB.
• Perform mechanical and structural analysis, GD&T, ISO GPS, etc.
• Understand and define manufacturing tolerances and clearances of HVCB parts.
• Define the Type test program for DTCB to qualify for IEEE/IEC and customer requirements.
• Assess process or issues during manufacturing and guide the team.
• Review customer requirements and assess suitability and adaptability to meet requirements.

Role

As a Design Engineer HV – Mechanical, you shall be able to do:

• The basic Mechanical design of HV circuit breaker analysing mechanical and structural integrity, tolerancing, dimensioning and manufacturability.
• Define the parts and its clearances for manufacturing
• Analyse the mechanical dimensioning and tolerancing of parts to activate and support phenomenon of arc chamber and gaseous in dynamic condition.
• Ability to define the type test requirements for each component of DTCB as per IEEE / IEC
• Define Qualification requirements of the parts and assembly as per the design to meet the type test and routine test performance.

Responsibilities

• Define design parameters as per the IEEE / IEC Type tests of DTCB.
• Perform basis study / analysis for DTCB such as Mechanical and structural analysis, GD&T, ISO GPS, etc.
• Understand and define the manufacturing tolerances and clearances of HVCB parts
• Define the Type test program for DTCB to qualify for IEEE / IEC and customers specific requirements
• Assess the process or issues during manufacturing and provide appropriate guidance to the team
• Review the customer requirements and assess the suitability and adaptability to meet the requirements to the fullest

Desirable Qualification

• Master’s / bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 3-5 Years of experience in HV product design involving basic study / analysis.
• Proficiency in analysis software such as ANSYS, PROMECHANICA, SOLIDWORKS, etc.
• Good knowledge on Type test regime for DTCB / HVCB as per IEEE / IEC
• Good knowledge / exposure to manufacturing and qualification process of HV Products.
• Ability to work closely with cross-functional team to guide and support them on basic clarifications regarding product and tests.

Additional Requirement

• Ability and willingness to travel 20%.
