Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking an experienced Database Infrastructure and Reliability Engineer to own and advance massive-scale distributed database systems.

You will drive reliability, automation, and cross-functional initiatives across platforms like iCloud, Maps, and App Store, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams. The role demands 8+ years in infrastructure or distributed systems, strong programming skills (Go, Python, Ruby, or Java), and deep Linux/networking knowledge.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure engineering or distributed systems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with an SRE mindset focused on reliability, automation, and operational excellence.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Experience leading projects of significant complexity, ambiguity, and cross-functional scope.
• Experience managing large scale distributed systems in cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, Ruby, or Java.
• Solid understanding of Linux, networking, and infrastructure components.
• Experience deploying, supporting, and monitoring large-scale distributed services.

The Apple Services Engineering Infrastructure team builds the next generation of platforms that empower Apple engineers to create products our customers love. We ensure the reliability and availability of mission-critical services like iCloud, Maps, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Podcasts, and the App Store, enjoyed by billions of users worldwide. We manage massive-scale NoSQL and distributed database systems, and we're looking for an advanced engineer who can independently take ownership of complex problems, drive cross-functional solutions, and contribute to the technical direction of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience in infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or distributed systems.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals — design, implementation, and microservices — with a deep SRE mindset focused on reliability, automation, and operational excellence
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Established technical expertise with a strong track record of leading projects of significant complexity, ambiguity, and cross-functional scope.
• Experience managing large scale distributed systems in public, private, or hybrid cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, Ruby, or Java.
• Solid understanding of Linux operating systems, networking protocols, and infrastructure components.
• Experience deploying, supporting, and monitoring large-scale distributed services and application stacks.
• Experience with scale testing, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's / Master's degree in Computer Science or Similar
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Apache Cassandra.
• Knowledge of infrastructure domains such as storage systems and networking.
• Strong problem-solving ability with sound judgment in evaluating technical risks, tradeoffs, and solution options.
• Hands-on experience with configuration management or software delivery platforms such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Spinnaker.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
